Isn't this crazy, when it comes to domain names...

Only the United States can use:

".gov"

I dont' know the history behind it, nor am I sufficeintly motivated to go look it up, but it sure is interesting.

The US Government and some US Schools designed and implemented the internet. It wasn't originally intended to be a global network. They set aside their own domain for government computers. .gov What's so strange about that?

.US really started to be used just some time ago

Since the internet was created in USA, they started using .GOV without even thinking about the other countries.
Same applies for .MIL

In Brazil we have .gov.br and .mil.br
