America wants the GOV to prosecute porn? Who?

I challenge 50% of the USA... or any American - to come forward with thier wish for our Government to spend our hard earned tax dollars prosecuting porno that we spend 10 billion Dollars consuming. When this number is the majority of the voting population - then, and only then, will I shut the fuck up about it. Bring it on America... I missed the vote on that one!!!

Read this article...

My favorite line...

"Many anti-obscenity activists are members of the Christian right, a group that generally admires Ashhahahahaha and is a key constituency in President Bush's re-election campaign."

And there you have the answer to your question.

So when did the tiny special interest groups become the majority? And, were they so compelled by un-purist thoughts that they just had to Buy an Extreme movie? Didn't the title speak for itself?

Let me put it this way...virtually everyone that I know...if not actively against purveyors of porn....certainly would not mind if the government prosecutes...but then again most would not mind if they don't prosecute.

The point is...most people I know think that purveyors of porn are scum and porn is detrimental to society and would be pleased if they are prosecuted...but if they aren't they can live with that fact...as they...just as I...are not activists.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 08-28-2003 02:32 AM

I wouldnt mind if the religeous tards chewed on a few porn companies, it will free up the market place some (Barely).

Not to mention I would hope that it would make a clear wake up call for people in our industry to push our influence in Freedom of speech.

The Right Wing buzz is fucking us all daily, from the top to the bottom of our country.

Then on that note, I'll have to agree with Rob Black that if you don't watch my crap, and swing way to the right, then lower yourself off the way-up-in-my-bizness scale. Every American has the right to not watch Extreme movies. I personally think that all the blatantly offensive violence on prime-time hurts viewers more because it is not hidden from us to choose - to watch or switch the chanel, especially for kids! At least with porn - you have to be looking for it to find it because it's hidden.

They didn't. They do become a key group, though, when they vote without fail and they vote as a giant block.

Small special interest groups have had an edge over the "majority" for a while now. Probably since before I was born. Look around, it's everywhere...

Anyway, I've said it before and I'll say it again... celebrities and musicians use their fame as "pull" towards their political platforms. I'm not exactly crazy about the idea, but it can serve its purpose. Why webmasters don't do something similar is beyond me. We're talking about millions and millions of people visiting our websites everyday. Millions of voters who don't want to see Internet porn go down the drain.

Why not use that scope?

Very true. Most people could care less what happens in this country unless it effects them directly.

Why aren't you allowed to tell your kids they can't watch?

Personally, I believe that at least 65% of the religious right don't practice what they preach. Probably much more than 65% really.

Remember that dude who wrote books about how bad gambling is and such? And then was found to be millions of dollars in debt because of his gambling addiction. Good humor!

FightThisPatent 08-28-2003 01:39 PM

Since the Feds are prosecuting obscenity based upon local community standards.....

New Rule:

If there is a strip club or adult store in your local community, you can't complain about obscenity.

What's local on a world wide platform? So if the internet is a genre or locality, then isn't that the comunity? So, really... based on the internet as the whole... what percentage of that market is pornography on the internet? I would guess at over 60% if not 80% of all the profitable businesses online are adult websites & online porn stores. I think that majority has spoken in 10 Billion dollar increments. Any challengers on that percentage? Airline tickets? Hotels? Mapquest? Oh, those are free services, they don't count.

"The funny thing about my business is I don't force it on anybody," said Zicari. "The only people that are going to be forced to watch my movies are the 12 people that sit on that jury."

there's the whole argument in a nutshell.

don't like it? don't watch it.

The squeeky wheel gets the grease.

When you have an agenda to promote, regardless of how limited your support is, you simply have to make a lot of noise. Most people don't care one way or the other so they say nothing. There's no voice to balance out the special interest.

How many times have you seen crowds of people marching down the street saying "everything's just peachy"?

tony286 08-28-2003 04:59 PM

Maybe we have to start a group Citizens for Pornography and give big chunks of money to campaigns and then they will leave us alone lol.

Honestly, I don't see why not. I mean, if people against Porn can create a lobbyist group why can't we? We have the same rights as Americans as they do (well, we're supposed to).
