A Jewish girl I was engaged to in 1986 made plans to charter a 747 to pickup and fly in our relatives and friends from all over the country for our wedding.

But, my father died before we were going to get married and she got into a huge fight with my mother when we flew back for my dad's funeral. It started when my mother was taking us up to our room and she noticed Andrea had brought two big suitcases that were empty. My mother asked her what they were for and Andrea said for when I go shopping at Bloomingdales. Needless to say my mother was in mourning and she was blown away that my finance planned on going shopping while the whole family was so distraught over my dad's sudden death.

Then an hour later after we ate dinner my sister asked Andrea to come and help with the dishes and Andrea said to her "Do these manicured nails look like they do dishes?" which set my sister into a tizzy.

Next thing I know it was WWIII in our house and we packed up and went to a hotel for the rest of the trip. Andrea and I of course got into a huge fight over everything and I realized she wasn't the girl I should marry.

Thank god the price on the 747 charter was going to be in the 6 fig range. Total insanity looking back on that materialistic relationship.

A whole house automatic-on propane generator. I don't have one yet, but it's a special dream of mine. :thumbsup

If my car doesn't count, I don't know. I work constantly because I am a driven workaholic, not to buy stuff. Sometimes I force myself to go blinking out into the light to a store where I don't get my clothes for free, but it's not like an I gotta have it thing.

Tala 09-10-2003 12:31 PM

Goddammit, I want a laptop that works.

On a serious note, I want the new Mac G5. Oh mama. Load that fucker up and ship it to me. With the laptop to match. And my DSL and ....

I'm getting excited. 'Scuse me.

probly my Middle Atlantic rack audio system I've been piecing together for three years... not only has it cost me a small fortune, but it's been so long in the making it's become my little freaking love child. I have 4U rackspace left to fill and it's complete... and I'm still deciding between two components... can't have both unless I lose one of the drawers.

Amputate Your Head 09-10-2003 01:07 PM

I suppose the three seater jetski would fall into that category too though.

I don't know if you want to call it extravagant, but I just got a new Blue Jiu Jitsu Gi. Those things get exspensive, but it was on sale. I get alot of use out of it, and plus it's fetching on me. All for 50 bucks!

Seriously, last item like that was 3 pairs of the same Gucci shoes. Got them like 5 months after the last one wore out. They cost about 750 bucks each, but I got alot of use of them.

sperbonzo 09-10-2003 01:42 PM

22' Wellcraft inboard/outboard with a cutty cabin. I love that boat and I'm on it almost every weekend and sometimes at night during the week, (I live on the water in Miami), but DAMN that thing eats up money!! Between the boat itself....dockage at the marina....gas....insurance......repairs....etc.... .Man, I have SOOO much fun on that boat all year, but boats are just a big hole in the water that you pour money into!

Auto insurance.

Jakke PNG 09-10-2003 02:06 PM

..actually.. 'tuning' got the better of me. I spent a good 20k on an old ford escort to pump over 230hp out of it, full body kits and mean interior... then it got stolen, and insurance covered 7k.

Now I have a 1.2 liter renault clio, unmodified. Live and learn.

Hmmmm... I think my extragant luxury item would have to be my travel. I know that is not a tangiable item but I spend LOADS of money on travelling all over the place.

The question I ask people is will you remember the big screen TV you bought when you were 25 when you turn 60? Probably not... But you sure as shit would remember an amazing trip to the Carribean or abroad. Memories like that last forever. :)

I'm not really into luxury items... I am slowly building an entertainment unit though. I'm in no rush, don't watch much TV...

VirtuMike 09-10-2003 06:19 PM

I'm thinking the most extravagant luxury item I want is:

Natalie Portman.

I don't know if I can afford it but it's one of a kind and would look great in my house, car, or our kids' bar mitzvahs.

I also plan on getting a plane and a Caribbean house. And a full time team of lawyers to right the wrongs in society.

I am not eccentric yet. One day I will be. Until then I'll just be weird and creepy.
