A-s-h-c-r-o-f-t launched Operation Pipe Dreams

Thought it was a joke!!! Tax dollars at work.. LOL

Twenty-two people have been convicted of selling pipes since Mr Ashhahahahaha launched Operation Pipe Dreams last year. Some 650,000 people in the US are arrested each year for minor cannabis possession.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/internatio...045876,00.html

One of America's best-known counter-cultural comedians, Tommy Chong, is facing the prospect of a nine-month jail sentence after being convicted of selling glass pipes on the internet which can be used for smoking cannabis.

Am I posting an illegal smilie???? :stoned

... 09-20-2003 02:32 PM

What's wrong with smoking weed?

Christians eat and drink Jesus all the time.

KRL 09-20-2003 02:38 PM

Ashhahahahaha was selected to appease the ultra right. He will also be the main reason the Republicans will have a very hard time keeping the white house.

Ultra left or ultra right is the best way to lose an election.

Please note that there is no weed or crack involved here...just pipes!

BradShaw 09-20-2003 03:48 PM

Throw all the druggies in jail. I recommend the desert of az.

This has been the law for years...and shops are frequently busted...by city...county...and state authorities...long before the current administration.

no. But the laws are a lot more liberal (as like many european countries). Marijuana possession is illegal but is tacitly approved. It would be very rare to get a conviction for a non-supply quantity.

I don't think anyone has been convicted for selling pipes :)

cluck 09-20-2003 08:54 PM

For a long time selling water pipes and the like was only illegal by state and local ordinances. As of recently many internet run head shops have been forced to close down. A while ago there was a big scare after a warning from the federal government.

So it HASN'T been going on for a long time, at least not as far as internet headshops and the like are concerned.

The drug paraphenalia laws are ridiculous. I was arrested for marijuana in june and the only reason I got paraphenalia tacked onto my charges was because there was a pack of those "small cigars" in my car. They listed them as paraphenalia even though none of them were ever used for marijuana consumption. That could actually potentially add another 6 months onto a jail sentence.

And let's face it, you can buy rolling papers, cigarette rollers and pipes at CVS or Rite-Aid. What's the difference between a pack of zig-zags and a pack of papers you buy in a head shop?

It's a fucked up world. The right-wing government doesn't want you to be able to buy a pipe cause you could use it to smoke weed. They don't want full disclosure of computer security vulnerabilities because people can use them maliciously. Of course they protect your right to have a gun even though you could potentially KILL someone with it. The logic is so twisted it hurts.

Yeah I live in New Jersey and they've got toally retarded drug laws. If you have over an ounce within 1000 feet of a school, football field, playground or anywhere else that there may be children present there's a 3 year mandatory jail sentence. They usually start with 4 years though and either decide 3, 4 or 5 depending on circumstantial evidence.

There's a town here called weehawken that's near NYC. The whole town is a school zone basically. They always pull people over coming off the GWB and look for pot cause they know they can nail them with definite jail time(even though they never had any intention of going near a school, or even stopping in the town). It's crazy and they wonder why the jails are crowded. The drug smugglers and gang members are left totally alone while the county focuses on just getting its quota of easy busts on suburban kids.

Yeah, when my kid is a teenager there's probably an 80% chance he'll try drinking or smoking weed. God forbid he or she goes to college and actually goes to a party. If there's marijuana in the dorm or whatever and noone takes the rap they get charged with the same thing as if it was in their pocket, sealed up in little baggies with price tags on them in a box that says "weed to sell to other people". I don't want them to be the unlucky one that has to fight a big long court battle and face a few years jail time because they did something every other damn kid does.

I'd rather they go after the people bringing the drugs INTO the community rather than fucking with local kids to get their quota of drug busts.

You know the entire drug thing is joke. Drugs have been around since man has been around. Men have used mind altering chemicals for religion and recreation for ever. Nothing will ever make them go away.

I had my teenage and later experiences with drugs and over time walked away from all of them. As a parent I have worked to educate my children about drugs and sorting the reality from the lies they are fed in programs like DARE.

The truth is your kids will be exposed to drugs, they cannot avoid being exposed. What you can do is make it so they consider the consequences both legal and health wise of their actions. No law will prevent them from trying, only their understanding of consequences will.

My children have all seen friends die allready, most from alcohol related incidents. Drugs are not for children of any age.

Any mind altering drug is not a good thing...in my opinion. The only drug that I have done is alchohol...and I have to admit that I have been intoxicated more than once. During my 12 years in the Army I was not really a drinking person...but since my injury I have been a drinking person because of 24/7 pain. Drinking does not really help the pain but helps to take my mind off of pain. I prefer drinking to getting hooked on pain killers at this point...as my condition will only worsen with age and it is not good to get hooked on pain killers at this point as I am sure that I will at a later time. I have a very high tolerance for alchohol and seldom become overly intoxicated. I will repeat no mind altering drug is a good thing in my opinion...and I think that it is people that do not have very good fullfilling lives that indulge in them.

Once again your opinion does not matter, nor does mine. The drugs have always been here and always will be here. You can pass laws till the cows come home and people will break the laws.

The real and only answer is education and removing the motivation. I advocate legalization, taxation and consultation.

Take away the profit motive, reduce the prison population by about 50% and educate those willing to listen.

What makes you think I'm a democrat? And I know they fuck with local kids, I'm dropping dozens of G's on a lawyer cause when I was 19 I got busted at a local coffee shop for letting some kids in my car who had weed on them. A friend of mine who was kicked out of her house had left all her shit in my car that week. The cops come up to my car and one of the kids(17 years old) empties his pockets before the cop sees him and tells him that it was there when he got in. The cops KNEW it was his, they'd been watching him for a while hoping to nab a kid for fun. Lucky for them they got to search my car because of him. When they went through my other friends shit they found her ounce of weed. There we go, I'm fucked and they have a hayday. One of the adults in my car was in the cell at the station with me and the cops harassed him and made fun so much that he broke down crying.

Of course on the flip side if I drive 15 minutes away from the affluent area the cops don't give a rats ass what's going on. I went with a friend to get some crack in Passaic once at around midnight and my friend gets out acting all sketchy and makes it obvious a drug deals going on. A cop puts a light on me and just asks me to move my car.

Anyway it's really hard to see what your argument is but it seems you think the police are actually doing a good job in the drug war.

You are correct...education from grade one-grade twelve...but I do not agree with legalization...but I have been an advocate of decriminalization for some number of years...but I am also an advocate of mandantory lock down treatment centers...but the powers that be seem to prefer prison instead of treatment centers.

Truth to that. Marijuana is a very tricky subject as far as government is concerned though. Decriminalization would release a big strain on our tax dollars while letting the cops catch the real criminals who peddle the stuff.

andi_germany 09-21-2003 01:45 AM

Well if selling pipes that could be used to smoke dope is illegal than surely selling weapons must be illegal as you can do very very bad things with weapons but well I guess the pipe producers have no lobby :1orglaugh
