What would you do if...
...every time you uploaded your sites someone hacked you and deleted ALL your work? :BangBang:
This has happened to Uncle Fester from (Link: www.sexcontents.com)www.sexcontents.com repeatedly and he has been working 24/7 only to see it happen again! (: Good people are hard to find as most of you would know, Uncle Fester has been having trouble the past few months with a persistent hacker compromising the security of his machine! For someone who has given so much, he is now on the verge of losing everything he has worked so hard for, since the Internet was a baby! He's lost his plug-ins, uploads, is losing customers, losing lots of weight and now he's losing his mind! Uncle Fester has given a hand to so many people in this biz. In fact he helped lots of people get started, including Kitty! :thumbsup He has given away thousands upon thousands of $$$ in prizes! :thumbsup Now he needs our help. Let's keep it real and give him the $$$ he needs to get new hardware, cgi scripts, an army of technicians and to replace the money he has lost from the loss of his plug-ins and buy some Valium for the crew working 24/7! All donations go directly to Uncle Fester at HIS PayPal account! [email protected] Anyone who donates will receive a resource listing, design, content, traffic and other prizes! As well as the satisfaction of helping one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet! And a very very special bonus for anyone who donates over $500! :thumbsup Kitty and Dakota |

I'm sure he's a great guy and has helped other people out, but come on. Everybody gets hacked now and then. Most people patch it up right away so it doesn't happen again. Why didn't he?
|
Hey Sly, what exactly do you mean by "patch it up".
Each time it has happened we have had to replace all drives on the server as once you are comprimised you need to do that for security. We also have the latest OS system, http referrer on some stuff, ip only referrer on other things, all scripts like cgi have been scrutinised for bugs, etc. The only good thing to come out of this is what we learn about security issues out there that everyone is exposed to, from send mail to qmail, from mojo scripts to formmail. Thanks your feedback though |
Do you have any idea who's hacking you? And why they're doing it? Who's your administrator?
I've never heard of a problem this severe, though I'm sure it does happen. |
Problems this severe do happen, but luckily not too often. Having an idea as to who is doing it and proving are two different things.
My administrator has been with me for 6 years, from day dot, so he knows my business, needs, and the server inside out, but give someone in Mexico enough cash, and they will find a way to get round almost everything |
What kind of hardware/scripts do you need to stop the disappearing updates?
|
sorry to hear about this problem!

There's a reason I have 15 servers in my house, running 15 different architectures and oses. Everything from intel to 64bit sparc / risc and every os you could stuff on it. And that's because in the security field, simply "keeping up to date" means your just that more vulerable. A proactive approach to such situations is needed. |
