would love to see what would happen if they turned gfy into a flatboard..
would be a challange catching up.. |

Ahhh just a sign of the times... |
ahh.. I remember posting on YNOT in '96.
That board may have been flat but it was moving and shaking! |
I always thought it was impossible to catch up on Netpond with their flat board... how the hell did people do that?? Seemed like a million intertwined personal conversations and I never knew what the hell anyone was actually talking about, or who anyone was talking to. Seemed in a lot of cases most people were talking to themselves...
|
True GFYers remember when GFY was a flat board for a few hours.
I sure do. Who's with me? :glugglug |

Flatboards were great because the most imporant topic was always what was being discussed.
Threaded boards have led to more posts.. but they have led to a lot more "show me your car" and "big tits [pic]" posts... back in the day on flat boards that kind of wouldnt fly.. and nobody serious would have ever wasted their time posting about stupid shit like that... cause there was too much money to be made. flat boards were the water cooler of the industry. threaded boards have become the long drawn out happy hour. <hr width=150>E-mail: [email protected]<BR>ICQ: 93186564<BR>AIM: ClkFlHooper<table><tr><td><a href="http://www.clickfeel.com"><img src="http://www.quickbuck.com/signatures/clickfeel.gif" width="88" height="32" border="0"></a></td><td><a href="http://www.quickbuck.com"><img src="http://www.quickbuck.com/signatures/small_button.gif" width="88" height="32" border="0"></a></td><td><a href="http://www.conversioncash.com"><img src="http://www.quickbuck.com/signatures/cc_button.gif" width="85" height="30" border="0"></a></td></tr><tr align="center"><td width="33%" nowrap><font size="1" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">E-Business Pros</font></td><td width="33%" nowrap><font size="1" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">$40 Per Signup</font></td><td width="33%" nowrap><font size="1" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">$35 Per Free Trial</font></td></tr></table> |
and threaded boards.... one other piece of FACT...
nobody will ever become famous and rich from posting on threaded boards. Q: Why? A: Because you would have to post 24/7 in order to keep the eyeballs.. whereas on flat boards you only had to post every so often to stay visible. Don't take my word for it. i never made a fuckin dime off flat boards. :D <hr width=150>E-mail: [email protected]<BR>ICQ: 93186564<BR>AIM: ClkFlHooper<table><tr><td><a href="http://www.clickfeel.com"><img src="http://www.quickbuck.com/signatures/clickfeel.gif" width="88" height="32" border="0"></a></td><td><a href="http://www.quickbuck.com"><img src="http://www.quickbuck.com/signatures/small_button.gif" width="88" height="32" border="0"></a></td><td><a href="http://www.conversioncash.com"><img src="http://www.quickbuck.com/signatures/cc_button.gif" width="85" height="30" border="0"></a></td></tr><tr align="center"><td width="33%" nowrap><font size="1" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">E-Business Pros</font></td><td width="33%" nowrap><font size="1" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">$40 Per Signup</font></td><td width="33%" nowrap><font size="1" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">$35 Per Free Trial</font></td></tr></table> |

The flat board days of Ynot and n e t p o n d were pretty damm cool.
Not as many topics as now, but we sure did discuss alot of biz, and did alot of biz :) Oprano's flat was cool, and so is there threaded board. |
hate those types of boards
|
yeah.. netpond was the bomb.
strife.. i'd be willing to bet that the reason you hate those types of boards is because they are boring now :( imagine if every post was a scintilating, eye popping, witty and important post that affected your bottom line. |
...and the traffic was 1% of what popular threaded boards have.
nowadays you get easily lost among the hundreds of regular posters. |
Hoop,
The pond was a cool place forsure. great for laughs and pissing :) I gotta admit sometimes we would all just get into pisses for some great exposure for that day, week, etc. ah, the good old days :thumbsup |

I simply think that the threaded board model was the best thing that could happen to the adult community. |
Ad revenue used to be alot bigger then it is now I would imagine.
Ask Nick, Andy, Ynot Bob, Aga, etc, etc. They made some serious coin in the old days... I had always wanted to use adultbbs.com to open some kind of board, but never got around to it. Takes alot of time to run big boards. Remember how many people used to work for n e t p o n d... |
Equinox,
no doubt that gfy and a couple of other boards make alot of coin from ad revenue. When threads first came out big, I didn't like them too much, still liked the more personal flat boards. But I did learn to love them in someways. If you want to skip a certain convo, you can skip and not join in. alot of good used for threads :) |
yeah. i agree too.
threaded boards have their place... they allow you to skip the b.s. conversations. of course there didnt used to be b.s conversations.. so i guess i stick by my original thought that threaded boards have paved the way for millions of off topic useless posts :-/ <hr width=150>E-mail: [email protected]<BR>ICQ: 93186564<BR>AIM: ClkFlHooper<table><tr><td><a href="http://www.clickfeel.com"><img src="http://www.quickbuck.com/signatures/clickfeel.gif" width="88" height="32" border="0"></a></td><td><a href="http://www.quickbuck.com"><img src="http://www.quickbuck.com/signatures/small_button.gif" width="88" height="32" border="0"></a></td><td><a href="http://www.conversioncash.com"><img src="http://www.quickbuck.com/signatures/cc_button.gif" width="85" height="30" border="0"></a></td></tr><tr align="center"><td width="33%" nowrap><font size="1" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">E-Business Pros</font></td><td width="33%" nowrap><font size="1" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">$40 Per Signup</font></td><td width="33%" nowrap><font size="1" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">$35 Per Free Trial</font></td></tr></table> |
Yes indeed. If there is 1 in 50 threads that contains really valuable information and an interesting topic, we have a good day on GFY. Then again there's more space to socialize.
|
Well I always got to give a :thumbsup to tom's newbie board.
While I never really jumped into that board at all, many people in our biz were helped out by him and others. I used to also like snoop's board too. I just think it was more personal and more help out there in the old days on the boards if you needed it. Not so much for people like me who started in the very beg. of this industry online, but for tons of others who came in later. |

posters started to adjust quite well after a few minutes.. look more like an irc channel. |
I remember the good old days as well....
Hooper has pretty much summed it up, though he definately makes it sound much more romantic ( and of course he is a realitve newbie :Graucho ) Just 2 things to add, first - threaded boards were not around in the old days - at least not the fancy ones that everyone has now. So I think the flat board lasted until the threaded boards became top notch, with intergrated graphics, ease of use, control for the admins, etc.... Second anf its cheaper to buy threadboard software now, then develop your custom flatboard software with all the bells and whistles. How many people remember what Oprano's name was before Oprano? ( No posts from the Oprano regulars.... this is for GFY people only) |

Thats too easy... I remember pissing with forest about his trannies on your board b4 it was oprano... That was fun... |
I used to shoot models for a hobby. I would find them over on http:/www.TexasTalentBoard.com . They use an old Matt's Scripts Webboard there. I tried to convince them to at least use phpbb but they're set in their ways.
|
Guess I remember the older boards being a lot different and not really worthwhile reads. There are always good threads posted here everyday along with a ton of crap but that makes it fun.
|
I liked the ynot board
|
non-threaded boards suck.... I've always hated them. It's one big ass conversation and it's impossible to follow. With threads, you can pick and choose which subjects or people you wish to engage with deadly precision. As it should be.
|
Flat boards suck ass
|
there was another popular threaded board before gfy...if I recall Lensman used to post there too ;)
