ever have a CB radio?

when i was a kid i was fascinated by them. i didnt have a computer yet.

i had a few different cobra models, then i remember this wicked one that came out, and i never could afford it, had a green screen and was all digital?

first i had a magnet mounted antenna mounted outside my window in my room, then i eventually stuck a 30ft mass up in a tree.

i was getting bounces from albany on some nights!

anyhow, i miss it, wish it was more of a community on there, id love to hook it up again.

We used to call bounces "skip" and yup CB was like the precursor to BBS's and Chat Rooms :karaoke

I was really into electronics as a kid. Had CB radio's, Walkie Talkies, Shortwave Radios, an AM Radio Broadcasting Transmitter I built, and several Police/Fire/Rescue type scanners.

When I owned a food company ...
I put CB's in six of my trucks.

It was great for long hauls and when two or more sales staff working in an area.

They were only RadioShack magnet mounts ...

never got into the "trucker" lingo though ...
good evening all
good evening Lil2Rich4U2

ran a Midland PowerMax for over a million miles in the 90's. Still got it somewhere out in a box in the garage. My last day in the rig was it's last day on the air.

Gemini 10-09-2003 01:53 AM

Search for shortwaves Rich. The hubby said if it is frequency tuned then that was what it was as a base station. Guess the had one in high school electronics and all had to get a license.

Ya - I hear you.
It's like the phone.
If it's business or a sale presentation for a "result" ...
I've never got the point of yapping on the phone.
Yet - chatboards, ICQ, and GFY ... I find relaxing.

sure, while I was on the road. I had multiple handles and put on various personas not unlike what you see here on GFY. But the bottom line was, the radio was an operational business tool.... 99% of the time I made it sound like casual nonsense and bs, and most times managed to create my own fun by inventing drama and manufacturing storylines across the airwaves.... but whether fun or serious, it was still a tool of the biz. And when I left the biz, I put the tool away.

I understand completely.
Is GFY a "tool" for you?

It is for me.

CB tag used to be the thing when I was younger. The person who was it would drive there car somewhere to hideout and give periodic clues to where they were. You had to home in on there signal. Hey what can I say... there wasn't much to do in cowtown, Fargo, ND.

millionaire 10-09-2003 04:50 AM

I used to have CB radios in the UK before they were legal, ie AM kit. The government legalized fm CB`s and they were shit and died a quickish death. Before, when it was illegal, everyone used all the codes and it was the coolest thing in the world. My 20 was little c, and my handle was shadow. I had a DX27 twig & a Midland 3001 rig. Ahhhh..... the good old days.

10-10 till we do it again, shadow

We use to play that that all the time, we use to call it the Foxhunt.

I started out with a Cobra, then I got a President 410 and put bigger chips into and boosted the power, it was cool to be driving in the car and talking to somebody on the other side of the world:1orglaugh

They are not reffered to as "Lot Lizards" anymore. They now require you to call them "Horizontal Highway Hostesses" or "Recreational Reptiles"

Amp I hear you about the cb being a tool of the business. Mine is being hooked up into a moving truck I bought. I haven't used it since 1993 but have a new use for it.

my last few years on the road, the only time I turned it on was if I needed a chicken house report. I grew to hate the damn thing.
