OK, I bought a really funny domain name, yesterday
The domain name is a play on a popular word which represents a popular event. This domain name is gold in my opinion. It's funny, it's very memorable and it's catchy. It has hilarious marketing possibilities and would be kickass for a party sex paysite (maybe even better for a gay party sex site).
The thing is, the name of the event is, of course, trademarked. The domain plays off the word but I don't think there is any honest chance of confusion because of the obvious play on the word and the difference in subject matter. I wonder if I could get away with developing a site on this domain. Can someone point me to good resources where I can research the lagality of this sort of thing? SpaceAce |

Dawgy, it's a play on a non-porn related festival. I'd ICQ you but my ICQ ceased functioning months ago. I've been meaning to get a clone but I haven't done so, yet.
lock, I may post it here in time. First I'd like to get a handle on the situation. It's not like this is a domain that has $75,000 in intrinsic value. It's entire value is based on the word-play. If that turns out to be a no-go then the domain will only have value as a novelty. However, if I can get away with it, this might be the most amusing and brandable name I own. I could definitely see having paid a nice chunk for this domain if I wanted to buy it from someone else but only for the word play, like I said. Edit: Dawgy, if you still think you can help or want to offer advice, please hit me up at avsweasel.com. SpaceAce |
