What firefighting school did this dude go to?

PornDiscounts-V 10-27-2003 10:30 AM

The school of hard knocks...

Dawgy 10-27-2003 10:30 AM

that is just fucking ominous.

1000s of peoples lives have changed since that pic was taken of their homes.

:(

Fletch XXX 10-27-2003 10:32 AM

Man dont make fun of those guys.

they are literally risking their lives for people day in and day out.

Most of the firefighters in this country are volunteer and are very under funded.

this shit is devastating this entire state.

thats some volunteer guy trying to save someones backyard.

they have all my respect, and best wishes.

a lot of death and destruction here.

When the Malibu Calabasas fires happened about 11 years ago it was heading straight towards our house in Calabasas and I was frantically driving home to get my dogs but the traffic was dead stopped on the Ventura Freeway and I just had to sit there looking at that ominous cloud of smoke thinking the worst.

Luckily the winds shifted and took it in the opposite direction before it got to our neighborhood.

LA is one of the riskiest places to live.

I know, didn't mean it that way. Just looks ridiculous trying to stop a fire with a garden hose.

I know man, youre above that.

not much else one can do. people are literally trying to defend off fires from their homes until they have to leave.

we need as much help as we can get, and its clear our fire departments are outdone here.

very fucked up.

this is the worst I have been through being here.

the air just smells burnt. ash is falling from thje sky and its abnormally hot here in the valley.

fires on both sides and throughout the state.

this type of thing makes you think about certain things differently.

ive lost a family member to fire so I guess i take it a little more to heart but man this shit is cruel and without mercy.

doober 10-27-2003 10:39 AM

wow thats unbeleivable, those are some horrible images

:(

I hope everyone makes it out ok.

hyatla 10-27-2003 10:39 AM

As I predicted, end of the world. There is no more air to breath in LA. :(

Martin 10-27-2003 10:40 AM

Bad fires this year along the west coast. Even here in Canada they got real bad. That's some serious shit.

Fletch XXX 10-27-2003 10:40 AM

My girlfriends little sister just called. Her school is about to be evacuated, and nothing has stopped and its not under control.

This shit is getting bad.

As a Volunteer Fire Fighter myself if you think the garden hose is rediculous your sadly mistaken ...

Many many fire fighters are near that fire now with nothing more than an ax or a water tank strapped to thier back (Indian Tank is the professional term for this).

I have stopped many fires from spreading with the use of a simple fire extinguisher or a garden hose.

Those pictures are crazy! Hopefully they get this under control soon! Looks VERY bad.

hyatla 10-27-2003 10:49 AM

I heard most fires in S CA are arson.

Bin Laden's image comes to my mind. He was hiking on the last video.

Anybody else see the connectin? :warning

Dry heat and dryed out trees.

I remember once it felt like the hottest day ever in the valley. I put a temperature gauge on our driveway and it shot up to 134 degrees.

I cracked an egg on the driveway and it started to cook.

That's how hot it gets out there.

And when the fires start, the Santa Ana winds blow it all over the place.

The Santa Ana winds are blowing like a motherfucker.

Whipping in every direction, big gusts and the heat and the flames.

Its a simple forumla for disaster.

I apologize, I've just never seen a professional fire fighter using a garden hose like that.

the governor is taking care of it as we speak

Fletch XXX 10-27-2003 10:58 AM

'The fires have consumed more than 300,000 acres ? the equivalent of 470 square miles. In many parts of the region, the fires kept growing despite the frantic efforts of more than 7,000 firefighters.'

7000 firefighters are out there.

Fletch XXX 10-27-2003 11:00 AM

this shit gave me chills.

imagine literally running on foot fire behind you and you still fucking die.

'The victims included two people who died inside their car as they apparently tried to escape the flames.

Among others killed were one person whose body was found in a motor home, and three in other vehicles, county sheriff?s spokeswoman Susan Knauss said. Three were killed while trying to escape on foot and two were dead on arrival at local hospitals.'

most are dying trying to escape.

Shit, they're reporting the Simi Fire has jumped into Bell Canyon. There are some gorgeous homes back in there.

A lot of people get killed or injury when they refuse the early warning orders to evacuate.

million dollar homes, up in flames.

hyatla 10-27-2003 11:03 AM

I was wondering, why is our governor still that boring Gray Davis? I thought he has been recalled. :helpme

InsaneGreen 10-27-2003 11:03 AM

i cant speak for san diego here but.. all the fires are burning along the base of the mountains and hills which is where all the big expensive homes are. the biggest house in my city, also the highest up the hill, burned down saterday night. its not your average sized homes that are being burned down for the most part... its all the big flashy homes.

Gabriel 10-27-2003 11:05 AM

I read 2 of the first people to die (Grand Prix fire) was because of cardiac arrest. One guy had a heart attack and collapsed while watching his home burn down, and the other died while in transport to the hospital.

The ash that is falling seems to be affecting more people than I thought. Alot of people stayed indoors this weekend.

directfiesta 10-27-2003 11:09 AM

Looking at the news now...

13 dead, 800+ homes gone...

Hard to understand how this can happen ... Rumors say 2 of the fires started by arson... fucking sick.

Shouldn't the army ( if any is left ) along with maybe a small billion be allocated to this disaster?

:2 cents:

no, the US army is only used to help other countries and deal with their problems.

KRL 10-27-2003 11:15 AM

Reporting now 30,000 homes are in danger of burning.

The biggest fire was touched off by a hunter who got lost and fired a flare gun into the air for someone to locate him.

I actually went to Edwards air force base to see an air show this weekend. Wondering why don't they stop the show and use all those planes to drop water. :2 cents:

Fletch XXX 10-27-2003 11:17 AM

'Firefighters were spread thinly around threatened communities, focusing on saving what homes they could. Local dry wind patterns called Santa Ana winds prevented the air tanker drops of retardant and use of backfires that are key tactics of fire containment.'

Now I realized the importance to make friends with firefighters. :winkwink:

jimmyf 10-27-2003 11:24 AM

The Army can't help (I believe something about the law) but the national guard could.

I know you're just being silly, but often firefighters get ahead of any real water supply and do what they can to save homes. Sometimes even a small amount of water can make the difference.

hyatla 10-27-2003 11:25 AM

They are actually using national guard helicopters, as I heard from the news.

FYI, these fires are nowhere near being controlled. Officials estimate this will be a 5 day event. If any firefighters are reading, You guys rock!

hyatla 10-27-2003 11:36 AM

I don't think any firefighters are reading this board. But I will definitely pass it on to my fuck buddy. :winkwink:

i know that firefighters are in the front line of the situation but i guess that picture doesn't really appeal to much to the affected casualties since it might send a wrong message to the public.

True, if you just see the picture by itself. But I bet they were originally accompanied by captions explaning the situation.

One thing you see over and over is homeowners trying to save their homes with a garden hose. They refuse to leave. Sometimes firemen will run up and take over for safety's sake.

two very different leagues.

ask firefighters which they prefer.

a desert fire like this or a buildiong on fire.

if this was in new york it wouldnt be a problem.

has all to do with location and training.

wind is a firefighters worst enemy.

phillyrich 10-27-2003 12:11 PM

There is ash everywhere in Long Beach at times this weekend it looked like it was snowing.
