TheJImmy is WRONG.

666= BILLGATES+3. or so its been mentioned i have not confirmed. but you asked for 'Bill Gates' which has capitals and a space.

so he is wrong. to give him traffic wouldl be a travesity.

chekc out www.asciitable.com

Why 11-11-2003 04:41 PM

and Leave it to beaver is false as well.

WiredGuy 11-11-2003 04:41 PM

I thought a jiffy is a slang term and the official term is centisecond as per this site: http://www.simetric.co.uk/si_time.htm

Similiarly, the source for the most commong name in the world according to Mirriam Webster is Chang according to http://216.239.57.104/search?q=cache...hl=en&ie=UTF-8

Just so you know, the source makes a huge difference. I think MW is quite a reliable source myself.

WG

richard 11-11-2003 04:43 PM

Turboface is wrong. :winkwink:

"Bill Gates" in ASCII is 919

uppercase/lowercase have different values, + there is a space there.

I think the chang versus muhommed thing is about 'name' versus 'surname'....

oh PS and "Why" I LOVE that word travesty ;)

:thumbsup :thumbsup

Jon Levi 11-11-2003 04:45 PM

'Go' is also the shortest complete sentence in the English language.

Quote:

One of the reasons ?GO? can get by as a one-word sentence is that the subject of the sentence is assumed to be ?you.? The sentence is really ?You go,? but all that?s needed is the verb because it?s a command.

As a followup... Jiffy is commonly associated as 1/100 according to Princeton. But it also associated with 1/50 and 1/60th (Source: http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=jiffy&r=67)

The correct definition is centisecond as I had stated by Mirriam Webster.

Also, for Chang vs. Mohammad, I think both answers should be accepted since it wasn't specified if first or last name was desired.

First off, the most common surname in the world is Chang.

Secondly, look up the term 'jiffy' elsewhere. It is 1/100th of a second.

Mohammad can be used as a first name, or a last name.

This is my contest, so I decide the winner - sorry.

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=jiffy&r=67

American HeritageŽ Dictionary of the English Language definition: A moment; an instant; as, I will be ready in a jiffy

Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary Definition: a very short time; "if I had the chance I'd do it in a flash"

Princeton University: The duration of one tick of the computer's system clock. Often one AC cycle time (1/60 second in the US and
Canada, 1/50 most other places), but more recently 1/100 sec
has become common.

2. Confusingly, the term is sometimes also used for a
1-millisecond wall time interval. Even more confusingly,
physicists semi-jokingly use "jiffy" to mean the time required
for light to travel one foot in a vacuum, which turns out to
be close to one *nanosecond*.

Mirriam Webster Definition: MOMENT, INSTANT <ready in a jiffy>

4 Dictionaries, none of which have a definition of 1/100 of a second...

Just pointing it out, I'm not trying to disqualify TheJimmy from winning or anything, I'm just saying in future contests you should pick questions which have a clear and precise answer.
