is this true...?

is it true you can get in trouble now for registering domain names close to that of another company? i hope not because i just registered a great one that will get thousands of typo hits most likely. someone please post the info about all this...thank you...

freeadultcontent 11-12-2003 09:40 PM

where did you come from?

StickyGreen 11-12-2003 09:44 PM

hmm...i think my mother's uterus...at least thats what they told me.

Dugan 11-12-2003 09:53 PM

if its just a typo and the company is paying you for sending traffic with that typo...
well, that sorta answers your question...
if there still paying you, there not complaining

StickyGreen 11-12-2003 09:54 PM

yea...but what if its the opposite? and you have the site automatically redirect to an adult sponsor?

Gemini 11-12-2003 09:57 PM

Hey! West Virginia got internet! :glugglug

My understanding is that you can buy what ever domains you want. Where you could run in to trouble is if they think your buying domains with the intention of jacking up the price and selling them because you know its valuable to a company. It's called cyber squating. Like if you knew Microsoft was coming out some awesome new product and then picked up that domain name to use against them for $, its illegal.

Typo domains - I don't think they can say shit to you. Have at it buddy. :Graucho :thumbsup

Gemini 11-12-2003 10:21 PM

Yes they can Mogulman. ;-) And they have. Latest was in Florida (I think it was) that I know of and a pretty big case in Philly a year or two ago. lol

The fact that you are sending it to adult oriented material is where you'll probably be shooting yourself in the foot.

brand0n 11-12-2003 10:52 PM

whats the URL?

StickyGreen 11-12-2003 10:56 PM

what if you send it to non-adult related material?
