Xbox hacks - where to start?

Hello all,

I'm thinking of modd'ing my Xbox, and was wondering if anybody has suggestions as far as mod chip/upgraded HD/software? I'm a total noob in the Xbox modding, so bear with me :)

I searched the board before posting here, and I did get a couple of hits for "xbox hacks", but nothing really spoken of in terms of doing it yourself.

Seems from reading on other sites that the "Xecutor2" is the mod chip of choice. And for HD upgrades, seems that 120gb drives seem to be the sweet spot since nothing over 137gb will be recognized. (but definitely looking for feedback before making any purchases) The solder vs. non-solder mod chips isn't a major concern, as I can solder electronics just fine.

Basically, I'm looking to have all the cool features of a hacked xbox, along with the ability to play emulators, play media files (mpeg/avi/mp3), and of course save games to the HD for direct access.

I guess the hacked software is the major thing... I'm sure there are probably HD images floating around with all the needed software setup and ready to go. So once the mod chip is in place, and you burn that image onto a new HD, you should be good to go. Aaah.... if it were only that easy :)

Any suggestions on this would be appreciated

There's many sites on Google that send out kits. Or you can buy it modded already from countries like Taiwan or the Philippines.

There's shops in the Philippines where you can bring in a PS2 or XBOx and they mod it while you wait. Guaranteed to work or your money back. You also can then buy a SHIT LOAD of copied Xbox / PS2 games for around $1.80 US each.

There are places that will install your mod chip.... but installing the chip isn't the problem. It's after the mod chip is installed that it's like a sea of information -- which "dashboard" to use, how to setup your apps, how to backup your games, etc..

xbox-scene.com has pretty much all of this covered. But again, it's overwhelming at first. So I guess my true intention of this post was to get some feedback from those that might have their Xbox mod'd already, and what they suggest. And definitely what they suggest in terms of the mod chip used and why.
