UK Spam Law Goes Live
 

Finally, the the world is starting to come round! The UK today has made it a criminal offence to send email or text messages unless the recipient has agreed in advance to accept them.

The law comes into effect today.. read some more ->

Get your lawyers ready go go set some precidents :D

'Its EU law (it also covers text - ie mobile phones).

But as 99% of spam comes from outside the EU, its not going to be much use.

Also, its going to be a real pain tracing it back to somone, then taking them to court.

Does this law apply to non-commercial email as well?

How is sending unsolicet emails CRIMINAL??? I agree it's out of hand.. but if it's to be considered criminal in a court of law than so should cold calls and junk mail.

This was on Polish TV tonight - They did a piece on this San Diego (I think) guy using a Chinese proxy host - Whithin seconds, they had this American's home address -
