Got any sports history in your family?

I played hockey for over 20 years. Can't say I ever played with anyone that made it to the NHL though.... quite a few that should have, but none did.

My dad is originally from Montreal, and had a friend growing up named Gump Worsely, they used to play hockey on the Aqueduct..... and ol Gump went on to be a goalie in the NHL.

My uncle Roger was drafted by the NY Rangers. He failed to show up at training camp though, and decided instead to chase after the girl he loved. She ended up snubbing him, they never did marry, and the Rangers instead took a guy by the name of Pete Stemkowski... some of you may remember him.

Lastly, in the world of soccer (football), my late great uncle, Sir Stanley Rouse, was the head of the WSO for many years, and knighted by the queen for his service.

We went out to meet him several times at Upper Deck's office in Cali. This is right before UD came out with the Golf trading cards, 200 bucks a pop to sign 100 promo cards and then lunch afterwards and he said NO cause he had to go get some of his "slacks" pressed and his car detailed. You would think a guy like that could have someone do that shit for him after he signed a multi-million dollar contract with UD for rights with the new cards. All in all the cards tanked after much hyped due to UD producing 10's of thousands of cases. :Graucho Theres more but hes just a pompous jerk, unlike alot of those guys in all actuality:321GFY

It was Winnipegger Billy Mosienko who scored the 3 fastest goals in NHL history, an incredible hat-trick in 21 seconds.

Well.... in an industrial league game once, your's truly was playing on the CN Trackers, we were playing a team of engineers, and I scored 3 goals in twenty-NINE seconds. That was about 17 years ago, the people watching were astounded... and so was I actually. :D

I"ve brush against greatness,
spent my high school years playing Bball and hanging out with the U of A teams. spent many days at paul "bear" bryants house and on the sidelines of some great bama games.

also, played high school BBall against Mike davis(indiana coach) he posterized me:(

uncle was a star Bball player at wake forest, turned down a offer to go pro and went into the army instead.

Dad was a pro footballer who didn't make it - I was a pro footballer that did! (English league football)
Older brother played volleyball for combined services and England and later coached the uk team for a short time. (Sounds good, however at the time England were probably not in the top 50 countries).
Nephew played football for Welsh schoolboys - And went on to ... become an actor in Australia.
Grand father played football for several 1st class teams and also played a couple of times for Wales.

An uncle was Canadian heavyweight boxing champ many years ago -
Another uncle was Austrailian boxing champ - Not too sure of the weight -
His brother was a champion jockey (I am not sure here - But Aussies would be able to check this - I think he rode the winner one year in the Melbourne cup - I am sure this is correct - )
One or two sportsmen in my family...

Loryn 02-13-2004 12:44 PM

My brother played for the Pirates, Yankees and the Mariners. He has passed away, and I see him in my nephew, who was born on my birthday, every time I look at him.

My nephew just turned 18, his 6'6 and his fastest pitch thrown is 100mph. So he will be a big leaguer just like his Dad was. :thumbsup

He was called Alex Mason -
He came over to the uk about 40 years ago - and I think he was about 40 years old then - After about 10 years, he moved on to Australia (For some reason, all our family do that)!

The funny thing is, I would have forgotten all about him - My mother cut out a picture from a recent newspaper (You know, when they show a bit of history etc), 37'ish years ago and Alex and the other trainers of our old club are lined up with us youths going on a sports outing - Holy shit, I can remember the photo being taken as if it were yesterday!!!

Almost 40 years later ... LOL!
