These stupid .xxx domains..

Correct me if I am wrong but the domains are:
www.your_fake_domain.their_business.com

then they redirect it to your fake domain with their stupid plugin.

My question is what happens when ICANN decides to add those tld's?

funkmaster 02-14-2004 03:30 AM

... if ICAN decides to add them I'd be very pissed, becasue I blew more than 5k on .xxx / .sex domains 4 years ago. I had some really good ones.

polish_aristocrat 02-14-2004 03:34 AM

The porn lobby should be against .xxx or any other domains, especialy if we would be forced to use them.
1. it would be easier for networks to filter adult content ( .xxx or .sex domains )
2. it would completely destroy people's businesses, if all sites like allpetite.com, gofuckyourself.com, thehun.net, sex.com, should move to .xxx.
It would mean years of legal battles for the new domains.

Alky 02-14-2004 03:39 AM

i don't think anyone will ever be forced to move based on what kind of site you run, and which TLD you are using. that would be pretty absurd.

i'm saying that all of these people who bought these so-called domains like funkmaster are pretty much just going to get screwed by ICANN if they ever decide to add those TLD's.

polish_aristocrat 02-14-2004 03:44 AM

IMO creating a new "porn" extension is wrong anyway.
They can add it in 2 years, but in 5 years they will force us to use only that new extension.

When it comes to online porn, illegal or obscene sites like CP, scat, animal sex etc should be fighted.
Dubious billing practises should be fighted, like Paris Hilton.
Porn-spam should be eliminated ( kids ).

But that's all, I really don't think we need a new domain extension.

That issue has been addressed by ICANN. They were rejected.

well eventually I think new extensions will HAVE to be made simply to the demand of websites, and the limited amount of names available.

Nobody should be forced to use say a .xxx domain name if they are catagorized as adult. It would be like making ebay drop their name due to a .auction tld being created. it simply will not happen.

Which is exactly why they are going to go with it. The government likes to create work for lawyers. As long as lawyers are suing, the government is making money off filing fees and other costs.

You run into the usual issue of the degrees of porn intensity. Do you think Playboy would want to have to go to Playboy.xxx? Does a website with open candid sex discusssions have to go to a .xxx TLD?

This is the problem. How do you define obscene material and sites on an Internet surfed by cultures all over the world where what is obscene to you might not be to me.
