Chris? Was the messiah named "Chris?"

If nothing else, GFY is educational.

RockDaddy 03-03-2004 11:42 AM

Yeah, at first I though it was going to completely suck because of the subtitles, that's the whole reason I never watched Hidden Dragon, Crouching Tiger or whatever.

But really you forget about the subtitles pretty quick and it doesn't affect the movie much

There are subtitles in portions of the film, but I guess they figure they didn't really need them.

In the immortal words of Chris Rock, "We all know how this is gonna end"

No no. He was right and you're making stuff up. The languages used were Aramaic and Latin - the predominant languages of the time. Aramaic is similar to both Arabic and Hebrew.

"Hebrew -- which by that time was reserved mainly for use in synagogues and by upper classes -- and some Greek, but Aramaic was the language of his native Galilee."

I gotcha. I heard Hebrew in alot of the movie, but I found this
http://www.keyway.ca/htm2003/20031108.htm
which probably explains why I heard alot of Hebrew.

Yeah, it is similar. I don't have much exposure to Hebrew, but Aramaic sounds more flowing to me. The cool thing is the movie may revive the language a bit (I was surprised to read that about 500,000 still speak it).

Actually, it's in Latin, and Aramaic (closely related to Hebrew
and the language spoken in Israel at the time of christ)

... The actor playing Jesus was required to learn Aramaic

Latin is very similar to modern day Italian, both languages I am very familiar with...

The subtitles do not distract from the film in any way...

;)

Edited to clarify Both Latin and Aramaic ;)
