I'm thinking just before the election...Bush will base his whole campaign on how he will protect the US, and *poof*, there's Bin. Hopefully it won't be enough for him to win.

I think armyofme may have been alluding to Reagan-Bush's secret negotiations with the Iranians that delayed the hostages' release. Carter's perceived inaction (or failed action) contributed to a sway in public opinion and, likely, to his loss that year.

Maybe Kerry can delay the capture of Bin Laden until after the election.

There is some political issue with sending troops to Pakistan, a nuclear power. However, a successful assassination of Musharaf would leave US forces no choice but go in to secure the country and the nuclear arsenal as well as prevent India from doing the same.

Things are obviously very fluid around the Afghan/Pak border but if they catch him soon, it would be best to keep it secret until right before the election for the greatest impact. This is BIG secret to keep though and already leaks talk about how bin Laden has already been captured. Can you keep a poker face?
