Bmw Z3
 

Alright I'm thinking about buying a car.. was thinking of a good used BMW Z3. I'm not out trying to be mr Big Pimpin, so I don't want to spend 50k on a car to make my ego bigger. I just want something that's decent and doesn't cost a fortune.

Anyone have one? If so was it a decent reliable car?

Z3s are nice cars, but make sure you go for the 2.8L or 3.0L straight 6-equipped models... The first years had some pretty pathetic powerplant options that made for a really boring drive.

I actually dont like the Z3, I think its the worse looking roadster out there. Even a car critic said "the only reason why people buy it is because its a BMW, but people would also buy a dead cat with the BMW emblem on it"

Yeah, the newer models with bigger engine also have slightly flared rear fenders.. pretty much the only cosmetic diff, but performance wise it's night & day.

If you like it man, go for it!

buy a M3!!!! by far!!!

wouldnt cost ya more than like 20K for a 98-99 or so.........dont know the prices in the US, in germany they are ass cheap, ship one fro there......

he said he doesnt want to spend more than $50K on a car. An M3 would be around that (if used). Audi TT is great, but you might be reliability issues with those.

in case you didn't drive one yet, give it a shot. i'm just over 6 ft tall, but felt like i was sitting in some kiddie mobile.

You talking bad about the Audi TT? What do you have against it, huh? Tell me! The new TT 3.0l version is one heck of a fun drive, the 240km/h one you are talking about is very fun to drive too..

Yea it would be either the 2.8 or the 3.0 I wouldn't waste my time on the 4 banger.. I'm just looking for feedback as I only know someone with a Z4 and they love it.. But I don't know anyone with a Z3.

Another one I looked at is the Honda S2000 , a friend of mine just bought one, it's pretty nice and fast but I duno if I want to spend that much on a Honda..

I just want a decent two steat roadster with out spending the big bling bling like funkmaster dose.. So the Ferrari 360 Spyder is not a option untill I get my TGP to atleast 50k a day :1orglaugh

don't buy Z3 ... it's one of the worst BMWs ...

The Audi TT's I don't really like them.. duno but they do nothing for me. Maybe if I drove one I'd think diffrent but for the looks I just don't get into them.

Z3's, IMO, are cars for rich teenage girls.

You can get a low-mileage BMW Z3 for about $7000 these days. It's cheap, and lousy.

yea the horsepower to liter ratio is pretty impressive.. I didn't think the car was worth the money when he bought it, but it is starting to grow on me.

Top speed is cheap.

I'm not a fan, I like feeling a bit of power before 7000 rpm.

S2000 is a fun ride, but I hate all the blind spots

GET THE S2000 !!! or test drive both see which you like more

Hey man. My old boss had a 1999 Z3. Very good little car.

z'3s are chick cars..
at least get like a z4 or a older m3

I have had one. A red one. You will be disapointed after a while by performance and size. But its a fun drive.

no problems when the top is down...still a really fun ride, never driven a Z3, but I have an old school 325 and have owned 3 other BMW's, all great cars, very reliable and they take alot of abuse, just ask anyone who has ever driven with me :winkwink:

i have had an S2K for about 2 years and my parents have a Z3 that i had driven around for a while

imo, the s2000 is a better performer and looks much better

however, the z3 is more of a 'roadster' feel, your closer to the ground, doors are lower, if your arm hangs out, it is about a foot or lower from the ground....not as enclosed as the s2k...this is something that i prefer

overall, i would not get rid of my s2k, had not had 1 problem with it...

the look of the z4 is a vast improvement over its predecessor

damn guess I'll have to rethink the Z3 and I'll get my friend with the S2000 to let me take it for a spin.. Honestly I'm trying to stay under the 20k price range.. I just have a hard time spending any more than that on a used car, I've allways worked hard for my money so I'm a cheap bastard..lol

If not, then just get a 330 coupe.

a z3 is a waste... it looks outdated and its an underperformer... if you want a 2 seater vert id go for a s2000 or boxter

Z4 has much better handling, much better looks, and you can get a nicely equipped one without spending $50K, of course you wont be far off.

The other thing to be concerned about is getting a used car you are inheriting the past owners problems, so unless you are going to get it from someone you trust you may end up paying more out of pocket expenses then you expected, actually making a new car cheaper or at least similarly priced in the long run.

I'd recommend an E46 BMW coupe but looks like you are set on the roadster, so I would say swing it for a z4 or get the s2000.

look around, read as many car reviews and tests as you can, then go and test drive some. When you find the car you think you like, hire it and put it thru it's paces for a day or two and then you will have a much better idea if it fits you or not! :2 cents:

I love the look of the z3, I always have - don't listen to these fucks.
The s2000 is very, very nice especially at it's price but don't let the pussies here put you off the z3 either - people will call any convertible a girl's car - bimmers porsches.. fuck em.
It's ovious you're not interested in spending the loot on a z4 or an m3, the z3 is certainly very cheap second hand..
test drive the s2000, test drive a z3 and make your own decision -we had half a thread the other day bashing the new M5. GFY is the last place i'd ask car advice.
