Atkins gone to far.

Last night I caught a comercial that made me do a double take. Diet orange juice! what the fuck, first its 100% juice not from concentrate and it somehow needs to be diet now too?

The mind boggling thought of taking a all natural product like juice which is already perfect for you and making a diet version for the "low carb" people is just beyond words.

I am pretty sure if someone is over weight in the first place that what is in orange juice was the very least of their problems.

I couldn't agree more.

Diet fads are embarrassing.

How you beed F-A-C? Haven't seen you since the irc channel fell apart.. I've been busy as all hell finishing school, getting a day job, and going back for more school. Finally getting into a routine where I can put some time into something adult again.

exspamr 03-06-2004 06:05 PM

the orange juice industry had to do something because so many people are on low carb plans that it really hurt their sales... there were stories about this on cnbc and fox a few weeks ago

hottoddy 03-06-2004 06:06 PM

It's all about the money. Orange Juice has taken a huge hit because of low carb diets. It's loaded with simple sugars - you might as well drink Coke. They are simply marketing an alternative product in attempt to regain some market share.

IPK 03-06-2004 06:08 PM

yeah i saw the low carb commercial for:

barcardi rum & diet coke: 0 Carbs 0 Sugar

jello: 0 Carbs

what a bunch of gay homos

TweetyBird 03-06-2004 06:08 PM

good point there, that's probably what's going on

doober 03-06-2004 06:08 PM

Wtf dude?
Atkins is way of life...blahblahblah......very healthy...blahblahblah...we dont need carbs to be healthy blahblahblah.....

:Graucho

Jeepers. I had no idea they were going this far with the whole thing. I would have to say that this is just going overboard with a good idea.

Who the hell would want to drink "diet" orange juice?

tootie 03-06-2004 06:12 PM

Hmm. Time to go to the grocery store.

freeadultcontent 03-06-2004 06:20 PM

Doing great booker.

Yeah I know the OJ industry was hit hard, my guess is people are not doing breakfast much anymore since it was a carb fest.

Oj vs. Soda give me a break. Soda is primarly corn syrup which is processed and so far from 100% natural juice. That is like comparing a mounds bar to a coconut.

Ok tootie go get some low carb juice, support lunacy.

booker 03-06-2004 06:21 PM

Good to hear.

I took my son to IHOP today and noticed tall ass pitchers of orange juice, seemed like everyone was drinking it except us. Although IHOP is not exactly diet central :1orglaugh

If buying low carb is supporting lunacy then the looney bins should be paying me a commission. You'd have a heart failure if you saw my kitchen cabinets! :1orglaugh

No I would not imagine IHOP being a low carb hang out. Hmmm I am now kinda craving that sick chocolate pancake thing they have.

Not really. Coconut is pretty much low carb, Mounds is loaded with sugar carbs. Simple sugars are simple sugars, whether they come from fruit or high fructose corn syrup. So, in terms of potential weight gain, Coke and OJ are very similar indeed.

tootie 03-06-2004 06:39 PM

All I can say is that I thank Atkins for his program. I developed gestational diabetes while pregnant and either I or my daughter (or both) might be dead now if not for being on a doctor supervised controlled-carb diet that brought my blood sugar levels down. :thumbsup

Diabetes has run in my family for a long time and controlling carbs makes all the difference in the world.

Yes and no. Orange juice has other properties that carbonated corn syurp do not. IE natural vitamin content.

What is the vitamin content in a can of soda?

mardigras 03-06-2004 06:47 PM

Glass of OJ despite similar sugars is much healthier than a Coke. Sugars alone aren't going to make you fat, it's the other things that are generally mixed with them, like the chocolate IHOP thing mentioned:glugglug
