SLAiN787 03-16-2004 09:01 PM

I heard they are alright.... but they have really bad motherboards which are always fucking up. So... =/

jasonir 03-16-2004 09:02 PM

NO. Had one back in '97. Crashed constantly.

Move along. Nothing to see here.

pushpills 03-16-2004 09:04 PM

wouldn't trust something of that price

just buy a dell, computers are cheap these days anyway

alias 03-16-2004 09:07 PM

Emachines are cheap crap, build your own b0x from name brand components after reading reviews for them by searching google or hardware sites.

Failing that, dude get a dell.

AaronM 03-16-2004 09:08 PM

How many silly questions do you intend to ask tonight?

Dreamweaver over FrontPage....Any idiot knows this.

emachines suck ass.......Any idiot knows that too.

Volantt 03-16-2004 09:12 PM

Never owned one, but had a friend at the University I went to who bought one. The thing never worked right.

Get a Dell or build your own box, not to hard to do.

AaronM probably has visited http://www.enuinc.com in Portland, Or a few times...

they came out with the 2003 findings on CNN a few days ago and emachines were voted the worst comp for 2003

Vitasoy 03-16-2004 09:16 PM

No, avoid them like the plague. Compaq, IBM, HP all these commercial pcs suck. My advice to you is to build your own or get it customized.

GirlV 03-16-2004 09:18 PM

NEGATIVE: dont buy one of those crappy things. friend of mine had about 4 in a row, kept returning and each subsequential replacement was shittier than the next.

Brujah 03-16-2004 09:20 PM

Dell has deals routinely for $398 or $349 systems even.

WalMart has linux based systems for about $199

schiz 03-16-2004 09:28 PM

I've had good experiences with them. I put the employees on them, back in the day.

Check out tigerdirect.com if you want a machine that you won't have to put together.

Depends what you want it for...entry level, it would probably do the trick.

Remember though, price is low because the parts are basic...if you need speed, build your own or pay a little more for a better product.

riosluts 03-16-2004 11:49 PM

Maybe in the past years emachine have been bad, but lately the reviews that ive been reading give them thumbs up

Lace 03-16-2004 11:53 PM

I bought a emachines for $400..
athlon xp 2400+
128mb ddr pc2100
48x cdrw
xp home

ended up frying the cpu, now running on 1.3GHz athlon xp.
upgraded to 392mb ddr. threw in a 64meg vid card...running 2k now and it runs basicly flawless.

StacyCat 03-17-2004 12:26 AM

Im on an emachines at the moment. It was an okay system, at the time I got it (4 years ago) it was the best that I could afford with my budget.

But, first one I had, power supply went out after the first year.

Im getting a new one soon, either going with a Dell, or with a system I build myself.

foolio 03-17-2004 12:29 AM

HELL NO

I used to work at Fry's electronics and we sold them and 90% of them came back.

They are shit

There is a reason they are low price......

use your fucking brain

CamChicks 03-17-2004 12:50 AM

:2 cents:

I bought about 10 of them when we started camchicks.com

After building a couple machines out of the cheapest parts I could find, I figured out it was actually cheaper to buy new emachines! :helpme

We have run them 24/7 for 3 years, and had a few harddrives fail, but given our extreme usage I consider that excusable.

icu33774 03-17-2004 01:04 AM

wow surpiseing that all the negatives with emachine. We own 2 of them. had them over a year and no problems. I run windows server 2003 on them and everthing runs smooth.

p1mpdogg 03-17-2004 01:21 AM

i made a ton of money spamming chat rooms of good ol emachines :)

4Pics 03-17-2004 01:22 AM

bdld 03-17-2004 01:26 AM
