Need ya input, getting screwed and need to fig...

Ok heres the freaking deal, the port to put the power cord into the laptop broke, I sent it to compaq it was supposed to be fixed and sent out yesterday I called a few mins ago and found out that their tech said it was damaged by customer.. Wtf would I do this?? SO they are going to try and make me pay for a new motherboard and service fee's they didnt tell me how much yet the service center has to call me back...

Now how the hell would I go by proving I did not break this it did it by its self!

Anyone know what I can or should do?

Thanks
TOM

complain complain complain, call them up twice a day and keep asking to speak to supervisor and then the supervisors boss, and so on. don't ease up til they fix it for you. make them wish you'd just stop calling.

Thats the way to do it. Probably the only way. Theres a supervisor or someone there who can authorize it to be fixed for free, you just gotta make them hate you enough.

Try calling the customer service department directly (Not the service department). Explain how you have been a loyal Compaq customer for years. Tell them that you have recommended their machines to many of your friends and family and now you feel like you are getting railroaded. Act irate and insulted that they would even insinuate that this was done by you. Continue asking for bosses until you get the one that will do anything to shut you up. That's what I would do at least... especially if I didn't damage it.

Call up and yell.

That reminds me of an audio clip i heard a few years ago,,,some guy calling customer support for his laptop screaming his head off.

another way this works is just keep calling and talking to the lower level reps, half of them are idiots, one of them is bound to screw up and make a promise he can't keep ... then call back and do a checkup, when the guy says wait the rep said something that he wasnt allowed to do, send to supervisor, they'll have no choice :)

I did something sorta like that this morning will keep doing it too thanks

Was just talking about this type of stuff with a close friend of mine and I gotta agree.. make them hate to hear your name/voice on the other end of the line!

Go through the customer service department. Keeping calling and keep going higher up. I bitched at Gateway for sending me a computer with 2 256mb DDR RAM instead of the single 512mb chip I was supposed to get. Minor issue but after 3 weeks of me calling and threating to go to the Federal Trade Commission they refunded $400 and sent me 2 512mb DDR RAM so I am $400 fat and running 1.5gb in my machine. Don't stop calling! Bitch, Bitch, Bitch.

All you can do is keep calling/writing/mailing them. If you do that enough, they will probably help you out. It could take some time tho

I manage an IT dept and we have these problems often...
Heres the thing...the ports on laptops are so fragile...its
easy to damage them without even knowing. The pricks at
tech support know this. All you have to do is quickly pull the
cords out a few times and its on its way to being damaged.

Usually it is because of the simple act of plugging and unplugging.
After awhile the wear and tear on it causes a malfunction.
Now if this lappy is new...then you definitely have a good
argument. Just make sure they don't hold your system hostage
on you.

If the lap is old..then it might be more difficult getting them to
cover it. Certainly argue until you cant take it anymore...because
you never know...they may get sick of it and give in...or at
least bring the repair fees down...or maybe you can bargain
by just paying the cost of the motherboard...

:) Good luck.

Ooh...that might a problem...there are indicators in the casing
as to whether its been opened...did you tell them this?

If not...don't! Deny it...or tell them you had something
repaired/added. They'll use it against you.

Basic_man 03-17-2004 09:49 AM

OWN3D !! :1orglaugh
