Could you be a defense lawyer?

and handle the day to day grind of defending some of the most reprhensible people out there?

Everyone deserves a fair trial, I strongly believe that...I might be able to do it for a short time but I would have to eventually move onto something different.

MattO 03-23-2004 12:43 PM

Only if you'd be able to completly believe that you're "protecting the rights of the accused"

from the "technical" side of it sure.
from the ethical side - not a chance

I have though of it, but I'll just stay in front of my PC. I don't want to be stressed too much. There's too much talking and thinking involved too. Not to mention all the lies you have to live up to.

Yeah there are alot of laywers. Alot of them only work about 3-4 hours a day since they earn about $300/hr. But they do deserve that. It hard getting into law school and even harder staying in, so I guess they deserve it.

3-4 hours a day? you must be kidding. I have been there, and I never knew one atty that only worked 20 hours a week

I have prosecuted and it was interesting but too many prosecutors accept the fact the defendant is guilty. They are driven to convict and are measured by conviction rates.

Being a defense attorney would be a decent job if you could pick your clients, that is not always the reality. You take them as they come and need to zealously defend even if it means having a guilty person acquited.

Lawyers do not get to play King Soloman they get to play the hand they are dealt. Very few lawyers work less than 12 hours a day, it is challenging work if you are going to do it well.

I'm studying rights at the University, so probably I'll end up as a lawyer.

In cases like you mean where the defendant is most likely guilty (and you know it) you don't have to go shouting around that he's innocent... you just have to make sure he gets a fair trial and every goes like it should.

4Pics 03-23-2004 10:24 PM

no, because it'd take too much time in school.

As far as defending the people I think that would be fun.

GiantGnome 03-23-2004 10:26 PM

nope i dont think i could. i have a hard time beliving people now days

reynold 03-24-2004 01:32 AM

I don't think I could. I'm very bad when it comes to
reasoning.
