Brits Paying $7 a gallon for gas

Gas prices just went over $7/gallon for the Brits.

WTF? Why are you guys paying 3 1/2 times what we are with all the oil you have in the North Sea?

You guys are getting royally reamed over there.

Manowar 06-01-2004 01:29 AM

Your telling me, and like 90% of it is tax to pay for the fucking Iraq "war". Blair sucks

Illicit 06-01-2004 01:29 AM

omg and I thought we had it bad

milambur 06-01-2004 01:36 AM

shit, we only pay like $5.50 a gallon here in Sweden

dd2 06-01-2004 01:56 AM

Apparantly it's set to go up another 10p litre

$5 submissions 06-01-2004 01:58 AM

Most of that is due to taxes. :2 cents: :(

KRL 06-01-2004 02:03 AM

I don't understand why you Brits don't protest that BS.

If gas went to $7 a gallon in the US, the protestors marching into Washington DC would be 10 miles deep.

Lee 06-01-2004 02:23 AM

There were protests by the truck drivers about 18 months ago and it seemed to force the governments hand at the time when they blocked all the petrol stations. However prices have steadily crept up since...

And yes we are getting royally screwed up the ringpiece, especially as we are an oil producing nation :(

Yngwie 06-01-2004 02:31 AM

$7/gallon? Holy fuck! that's a rip off

kak_azn 06-01-2004 03:06 AM

Dude I would be pumping that shit out of everbody else's ride!

Theo 06-01-2004 03:30 AM

Ian 06-01-2004 05:01 AM

In Canada we're paying about .90/litre on average. Mostly tax. People are pissed. :(

Bottled water can be anything from £0.50 to about £1 depending where you are

Double that and you have the approximate us $ price

Milk is about £0.40 a pint

Well.......They did. At one point when they started all this madness of increasing to like $5 per gallon people protested and shit. Something got done about it but only for a small time. I remember gas stations running out of fuel because people were loading up there cars as the protestors didn't let the fuel trucks out of the depot to get to the stations.

It got out of hand, the Government stopped increasing but only for a short time.

The price is actaully set to rise again. Thats what puts me off having an expensive car. If I had anything over a 1.6 I would be paying around $450 per month in fuel alone! And that wouldn't get me a lot of miles outta my car. CRAZY!

Bottled water for a 500ml bottle is around 80 pence average. for a 1.5l bottle its around £1.10

Milk is about £.040 per pint or if you go to stores such as Asda you can buy a 6 pint carton for about £1.50.

~ $3.60

chodadog 06-01-2004 06:00 AM

Not sure where you got the info from, so i'm not sure what they're using, but another thing to remember is that the Imperial gallon is 20 percent larger than the US gallon.

But either way, it's a hell of a lot more than the US. Petrol is taxed up the ass in just about all of Europe.

johnuk 06-01-2004 06:02 AM

You think that's expensive. You go to Leicester Square it's £4 for a bottle of Bud, about $7.35

Unless you've got money to burn don't come to London :glugglug

{fusion} 06-01-2004 06:02 AM

VAT is the worse, the main reason for moving out of UK was the high VAT and tax I was paying it was a joke.

Sarah_Jayne 06-01-2004 06:04 AM

should have seen the chaos at the petrol station on our corner during the protests. IT was really insane. I did have pics but not sure where they are anymore. The problem is that the guy running the protests was a dweeb plus it was all 'too french style' to last that long.

well, my question is why in the heck are you drinking in Leicester Square unless you are a tourist? There are pleanty of pubs in Soho (like one street over) that don't charge anything like that. Please don't tell me that you also eat at Angus Steak Houses.

justsexxx 06-01-2004 06:09 AM

We also pay almost like 6 dollar per gallon. And protest? Well it has always been very high a;lready here.

Most of the money is paid for taxes and such. Why you think we don't drive that much v8's and v12's :)

Andre

EddiePulp 06-01-2004 06:15 AM

Someone is making one hell of a markup off you guys in Europe.

=^..^= 06-01-2004 08:36 AM

here most ppl are paying average of AUS$1.08 per litre
but we use supermarket vouchers to get fuel for AUS$0.93 per litre

and I thought THAT was bad

everything is more expensive in the UK

20 cigarettes - £5 = $10
bottled water - 1.5L = £1.10 = $2.20
1litre milk = £1 = $2

Tex Willer 06-01-2004 11:22 AM

bottled water? Jesus...

Edguy! 06-01-2004 11:25 AM

I think you'll find we pay £0.99 per lite cos of Iraq :helpme
