Since they went paid there is a mass exodus from that script.

No clue. Last I heard the bloggers were trying to figure out what to use. Admittedly I am kind of out of the loop though.

weblogs.com closed this week, too.

Typepad.com is MT's pre-set up, hosted package. I recommend it to anyone who wants an easy solution.

Blogger.com just re-launched, too with good templates and features.

But MT's server version is still the blog of choice.

I like blogger myself.

Obviously google liked them to..haha

I got a few tgps set up that i regularly post gals and text on like traditional blogs but with a daily updated thumb gallery bank.

gleem 06-17-2004 09:15 PM

hmm, guess I should have been specific, I wanted one that let surfers register and run their own blog, Boaster and some of the others seem to just be for posting your own blog, but doesn't let anyone else signup for one.

What are the features you are looking for aside from letting people sign up and run thier own?

Basically let em signup and keep a diary/journal/blog, and have some easy admin stuff like being able to censor keywords, and some way of making sure no one is running CP sites or warez stuff off my server.

Should be a full featured blog, something that will let me also stick a banner or a popup on someone's page if I choose to.

Hmmm. That is probably gonna cost you some change. Doubt you will find it for free. I'd suggest a custom job for what you are looking for. That way you get everything the way you want. I'm wraped up in projects for the next 3 months or I would spam you. ;) I'm sure there are some guys here that can do that though and are looking for work.

Movable Type was a great script and really customizable but it really sucked up the resources on our server and bogged it down. I had tons of trouble with everything when I started installing and customizing that script. Got rid of it and put in something a little different NePhp Publisher and have no problems whatsoever except for floods of traffic bogging it down at peak periods occasionally.

I wouldn't mind paying for it, but prefer to get a prepackaged one instead of having yet another custom job going.

Well my advice is to go custom. A prepackaged set up is most likely going to have several features you don't like or are not going to be able to be customized to fit your needs as the end user. Plus you have to look at updates, tech support, custome tweaks you may need etc. Any good programer that you may hire to do you a custom job will offer this (maybe at extra cost after the intial build is accepted). A package download may or may not offer any of that.

Oh and not to mention a package may not allow for custom mods should you want that later on. Better to do a build from the ground up and get what you want from the go.

gleem 06-17-2004 10:03 PM

god, a custom script is such a huge job for this, but I guess it's the only way, guess I'll let you take a peek at it in a year when it's done lol

A custom gig should not be a huge job for what you state here that you want. If you find the right coder it should take like 2 weeks for a workable beta build. But, you will want to hold onto this person if they do it right for post beta tweaks. If you don't have someone or find a solution by early September post here again and I'll shoot you y digits if i'm not booked.

2 weeks seems too easy, I mean it's basically a web publishing service that lets people post via WYSIWYG style from preselected templates, has a registration/membership system, comment system for users, send to friends, a virtual hosting script, then have a giant admin section so you can have admins, moderators, and then have other cool features like you can search for users, keep buddy lists, seems like a 3 -6 month deal to me. Or maybe I'm just using the wrong programmers

Well you just added a shit load to the features you want since your last post about what you wanted. Yea, so more than 2 weeks for a beta build. Your guess is closer. You want all that then it's gonna take a wait period for a decent beta build. Once again, though, given your desires I say go custom build. My :2 cents:

Do some paning here for coders and list exactly what you want and the time frame you want it done in. You might get a decent response. Just watch for scammers, so get refs before sending cash.

gleem 06-17-2004 10:31 PM

yeah, I tend to add a shitload of features after I come up with specs which is why I am a programmers worst nightmare ;)
