Anyone using a wireless software access point?

Assuming that there are only 1-2 PCs connecting are
there any disadvantages compared to hardware?

When you tried it? I have a linksys router WRT54G, and for my laptop a 54G linksys card as well. It was working within 5 minutes. Then I upgraded the security settings, and with 15 minutes, it was all fine...

To Topicstarter: I would go for known brands, that come often with updates/upgrades. Also why an accspoint, and not a wireless router? The price difference is small

I have a USB ADSL modem which is not compatible with hardware routers. So I'd need to buy a new ADSL modem and wireless router (or combined unit), which would cost a lot more than a wireless card + software access point.

You're such a newbie. I'll bet you use MS FrontPage too, don't you?

if it's just for web access... no problem at all. I've 10 mbps downstream and the access point can handle that without any problems. For working in my local network I prefer standard cable connections. Doing backups on a remote box or copying huge amounts of data from box to box just needs to long with wireless connection.
