Good eatin' (pics)

I made sushi at home today for the first time. Damn, I never knew making rice was so damn hard. Rinse, boil it let it simmer, take it off the heat, don't remove the lid, add vinegar and sugar cool it down while mixing etc.. but, shit.. it's better than in restaurants :glugglug

Ohhh, that explains it, you did a good job at preparing that though. :thumbsup

TheWildcard 08-13-2004 02:59 AM

Never tried sushi before. I love fish though.

Mmm... fresh salmon.

Love Brokers 08-13-2004 03:02 AM

You must be a pro chef already, cause I don't think you could have done such a great job the first time around if you weren't a triained chef.:)

Yeah the salmon's damn good good. I was amazed to see fresh tuna in the shop, so I had to buy some (?35/kg lol). Almost double the price of beef tenderloin. lol. Guess one has to pay extra for shit that can't be caught locally :)

Anyways, there's 3 different ones
- atlantic salmon + red bellpeppers
- Tuna + cucumber
- Shrimp + avocado

:)

ps. No wonder japanese people are small. I ate under half of those and only a few slices of sashimi and I'm full. hehe :)

It's good. Just make sure it's saltwater fish. Freshwater fish could have worms in 'em.

Eating raw (salted) herring and salmon is part of finnish tradition, completely raw fish isn't that far off.. besides, it tastes heavenly. :)

I also do like raw meat, steak tartare is good.:)

Do they taste salty? I eat a ton of salt so maybe that would help.

kowntafit 08-13-2004 03:20 AM

That looks tasty alright. Now I all hungry. :(

Yes, the herring is VERY salty. You have to eat it with potatoes or something, too salty to eat by itself. The salmon is less salty, but somewhat too.

Manowar 08-13-2004 03:21 AM

Weber 08-13-2004 03:45 AM

Goodness.

Buy a RICE STEAMER. Takes the guesswork about cooking rice. Try to get SHORT GRAIN rice--great for sushi!

Jer 08-13-2004 06:28 AM

How about that frier you bought some time ago? Do you use it a lot?

I bought an george foreman grill but I can't use it yet because it's 110V and here is 220V.

Thanks.
I bought sushi rice which was good for this dish, I also followed 'official' instructions on how to prepare sushi rice, rice steamer was not mentioned in them :)

Kitty, the vinegar and sugar are mixed in after you take the rice from the kettle and put it to another bowl to cool it down. :)

I didn't bother to write the whole instructions there. lol. :)

I don't use it much. I occasionally do my fries there or home-made nuggets. The thing makes your apartment smell like a restaurant kitchen for a day.. so that's not nice.

I want a george foreman grill too :-/
