A Note About "Open Water" the new shark movie

Even though its shot on DV and their are limitations to that, go see this flick...........it stays with you and was well done........if you saw "Jaws" and liked it, this one's a must........very realistic........

A lot of the terror is real as these actors actually were in the water with bullsharks and the actors and director signed waivers saying they wouldn't sue each other if something bad happened.

Go see it........it'll stay with you.

:thumbsup

I saw something on it, the actors had the chainmail under their suits to protect from possible shark bites. Pretty cool.
But when it comes to physical danger, I gotta go with the WildBoyz as my source of entertainment:

god that show is so stupid, why is it still on the air? i hate those two fucks....daddy didn't give them enough attention when they were younger

there is one thing to be born to take risks and live in danger...then there are people who do it strictly for attention...and the more people laugh or give them attention, the more dangerous it becomes, and that is just fucking stupid

I love rotten tomatoes.. its about the only accurate way to get a review for a movie in my experience.

I have yet to see this myself.. its only 73 minutes long? I might wait for it to be on DVD.. seems like a waste of time to go see an hour long movie and deal with all the hassles.

its worth going to see despite the fact its only 73 minutes long, believe me; the sheer realism of their situation, and how it echoes what would happen if left behind, is really refreshing.

this film pulls no punches either. it doesn't try to be grandiose and big, its just a neatly done small film study in ocean terror.

Thats true, as well; you get a cross-section of opinion and some really good film reviewers on there, like Peter Travers, instead of egotistically bloated people such as Roger Ebert and his new sidekick, pal/moron, Roeper.

i dont really do shark movies

Bansheelinks 08-24-2004 04:36 PM

do this one.........man its been popping up into my mind periodically all day

KCat 08-24-2004 04:42 PM

I don't think I can go see that one. I remember hearing the news reports of that poor couple left by their dive boat in Australia a few years back. It just seems too real of a story. I might never swim in the ocean again. :(

Bansheelinks 08-24-2004 04:45 PM

thats what made the movie so interesting...........and so real.........not to mention the fact that there were real sharks zipping around them in the water..............there are no digital effects in this movie........what you see is real..........if you see a shark in the water near them, there is one

it is based on a true story except the real story was one woman.. no man and she survived.. I watched a show about primal fear and it showed the vid she took while stranded.. her screams of terror as the sharks were circling her were very scary...part of her therapy was to watch the tape of herself with sound.. :helpme

they should make another Jaws movie but start over.......new place........new characters.........and have a world class writer and director...........if it would be half as good as the first one, the thing would make $400 million plus domestically

That wasn't in "Open Water" Happypeekers..........what was really hair-raising about OW was the fact that the sharks were obviously swimming around the actors and you knew it was really happening..........that was really something, there were no digital effects in this one

PGR 08-24-2004 08:29 PM

My Mom and sister saw it tonight and said it was crap. I'll probably still rent it when it comes out on DVD, just to see how good/bad it really is.

pure energy 08-24-2004 08:38 PM

I liked it for what it was...........a simple movie, simple concept, and interesting study of what would most likely happen in a real life situation, from human psychology to the food chain element.

And seeing the sharks actually flit around the actors, that was cool.

I so agree. The other spinoff isn't that great either, the one where they live at the parents house.

"Jackass" just could not be left alone!

Brag Tape 08-24-2004 08:46 PM

It hasn't come to OZ yet but I'm looking forward to taking my wife.... she just got her open water dive ticket......
