Windows XP Service Pack 2

new antivirus & firewall, managing browser add-ons, popup-blocker...

Just installed it, and also compared firefox with IE. IE loads faster, and the popup blocker is efficient.

No problems/conflicts with existing programs or network/internet.

The add-ons managing is pretty cool, not only because of controlling it. It also shows what was used. Not a dialerprogram best friend - hehe.

However I can recommend lots of RAM and HD buffer - lucky I got them :Graucho

I like it so far. :thumbsup
bye bye popups and dialers & bye bye firefox! :)

Cman 08-26-2004 08:36 AM

works fine for me so far. the "new" firewall seems much better than the original XP firewall.

not that any software firewall is rock solid, but its better than nothing.

I heard that it conflict with Service Pack 1.

Google toolbar is also very good popups blocker!

Google's toolbar sucks at blocking popups. I don't even use it anymore now that I have SP2. :thumbsup

I'm not taking the chance ... not yet

SGS 08-27-2004 12:48 AM

Like most sensible paysite owners we downloaded SP2 onto one of the stand-alone PC?s in the office here to anticipate any subscriber customer support issues that might arise over the coming days as surfers auto update and we have found no problems with it at all. :2 cents:

Can it block Offshore Clicks' popups?

I'm sticking with the toolbar, but it needs an update. It lets too much crap through.

I'm giving it two months. Once there's enough updates, I'll go ahead and update.

Just going by my experience with SP1:BangBang:

mardigras 08-27-2004 12:57 AM

I agree Google has slipped to the suckiest at blocking popups, but I have tried other programs that are great at stopping popups since they slipped. I'm still waiting for SP2 to be on the regular Windows Update site for a week or so...:2 cents:

iwantu 08-27-2004 01:11 AM

We installed it today as well!

Seems to be running fine and smooth!

let's hope it remains this way! :)

Cool, but was speaking to MS yesterday on a number of issues I have with them.. antivirus was one issue and their senior techs and some other people dealing with customer service problems all say Microsoft doesn't consider itself to be an antivirus company. (their words not mine) :glugglug

what exactly happened. Jeez download it and install it. how hard is that?

PersianKitty 08-27-2004 02:50 AM

Updated my laptop with it yesterday. I was afraid I'd have to run out and buy a new one if it didn't work right because I'm headed out for a trip in a few hours.

Everything worked fine. No problems or conflicts so far. Took a bit to get my wireless on my laptop to see the network, etc.. seems they changed the wireless networking a bit. All is well now tho.

it won't work if you ever installed a 3rd party piece of software

Such as?

Muff 08-27-2004 02:59 AM

The only thing it doesn't seem to stop is manipulation of the back button.

Try going to some of CE cash's sites and you'll see what I mean.

RicardoB 08-27-2004 05:21 AM

I still say it's just a matter of time will work arounds are found, created and used.

Give it a few months and ya'll have pop ups as usual :)
