SP-2 POPUPS built-in blocker hole
I have been working on a totally different approach than this method , but i happened to notice it today on a page someone posted in a thread entitled FIGHT VIDEOS.
Someone also posted ( on gfy ) about spyware on some of those pages, this doesn't have anything to do with those. the code is from fastclick.net here is the page i noticed it on. http://www.compfused.com/directlink/149 The fastclick code is quite good and gets around most popup blockers and gets a popup to almost every browser. ( properly ) But as you may notice if you have sp-2 patch it blocks a popup when you enter the page. The code is set by a cookie to only pop once per unique visitor so if your trying to figure it out you will have to delete your compfused cookie in order to re-create it more than once. Ok now heres where the trick comes in. Obviously if your using sp2 you have noticed that all popups are blocked and new pages are only spawned from a users click, and as of yet i have not seen multiple windows spawned from one click. Ok so go to that page and look on the middle/lower right hand side for a link to funny olympics pictures. Right-click and open link in new window , now close that window and go back to the compfused page and this time just do a normal click on the olympics funny pictures link, you will notice a popup in the middle of the page. When re-creating the code on several machines , i notice sometimes the window title is appended with BLOCKED: and the window does not display contents ( most of the time it shows though ) Now the steps taken to create the popup seem almost pointless unless you look at what exactly takes place.. I will be working on this code a bit more to see what i can come up with. Anyone else want to figure a good method to do this please post more info in this thread.. |

No popups (and no spyware) with SP1, XP Pro and Firefox 0.9.2
|
My ICQ toolbar blocked it the first time.
The second time nothing popped up, but ICQ didn't say it blocked the popup. |
