I have always thought geodesics are the optimum shape for houses in environmentally unfriendly areas (hot, hurricaney, cold, etc). These houses are really affordable - but once you pimp out the insides, they really pack on the bucks. A 5000 square foot house is not cheap to carpet, let alone put up walls, a floor on the second floor, etc.
Nonetheless, you could have a HUGE interconnected complex for relatively cheap if you wanted to be slick - like one huge one to live in, a medium for a gym/sauna/health center with badass hot tub, a medium for the hummer and ferrari, a screen to cover your balcony, and maybe a spare for a home office or something. For like $500,000 plus the land you could be living pimp. I wouldn't even know what to do with 15,000 square feet of house. I'm sure I could find something.
