since so many have asked - here's my current situation
i went to the hospital two Thursdays ago, with massive back pain and trouble breathing. i had what is called a pulmonary embolism. it was later found to be caused by a deep vain thrombosis (dvt) in my lower leg, which in turn was caused by my broken ankle. while in the hospital, i ended up having a 2nd P.E., and came pretty close to death. i was up to 25 MG of injected Morphine every couple of hours to handle the extreme amount of pain involved. i thought i understood what pain was. i had no idea until this ordeal.
i'm now on something called coumadin (a blood thinner) for the next 6 months. i can't sleep lying down, so i have to sit up while i sleep (pain in my lungs is unbelievable when i lie down and breath). obviously this makes sleeping very difficult and uncomfortable. i also have to wear compression stockings for 6 months, and be very careful (no snowboarding or anything active where i might get injured - since i'm on blood thinners, my blood will no longer clot, and i can bleed to death if injured). also, i'm not supposed to travel at all. and this 6 month thing may be extended indefinitely, depending on a variety of factors. that's about it at the moment. :glugglug |

jesus christ man. get better. that's some serious shit.
|
sad indeed
|
Sucks dude. Good luck on a short recovery vs "indefinately".
|
Take it easy and follow the plan man. That's about all I can say.
Good thing you work from your own computer and not in a factory. :D |
You're one very lucky man to survive that.
:thumbsup |
Glad you pulled through...my mother-in-law died suddenly two years ago from dvt. Scary stuff!
|
That's a really crappy thing to happen, especially since you've said before how much hiking you were doing.
DVT is the kind of thing you expect from really inactive people, which it sounds like you weren't (except for the unfortunate ankle situation) :( |
how you could manage to put a smiley after that post is beyond me, i wish you the best.
|
get better man :)
|
glad you made it man and wish you a speedy recovery
|
guess we've have to come to you then....
|

I trust things will get better for you soon and that you manage to find enough energy to get thru' each day :) |

Although what you have gone through sounds like hell, remember you are alive. You came very close to losing your life and for that you should be very grateful you're even able to post this message. So if you're not able to snowboard again or even do major sports, you'll still be alive. I'm sorry for the ordeal you've gone through but glad you're still with us. I wish you the best of luck in a speedy recovery Quiet. Cheers :glugglug

that sucks man, hope you can go back doing your thing after the six months.
Just be positive about it, the mind is an incredible thing :) |
however, NOTHING takes precedence over the all mighty buck. NOTHING.
i am speaking from first hand experience. don't get sick, or people will back stab you. good stuff :glugglug |
oh :(
have to be careful now... don't worry, you'll soon realize that those 6mos are over :) |
Oh, sorry to hear that.. and glad you made it. You are young and patient enough to recover fast and take care of yourself while taking this med. and later on... nothing is so enjoyable than living.. forget the house now and believe in being able to snowboard even a year later.. I am sure you'll do it.
good luck and health :thumbsup |
feel better
makes me wanna go out and enjoy my money |

You've been through hell, but survived it's first round. And I'm sure you'll make it through the next one.
Takes a tough person to go through tough times like this. I have every confidence in you that you are as tough as is necessary to totally recover! |
Best wishes to you quiet and solid hopes that this is just a temporary bump in the road for you.
