Taxes in the USA on purchases. Explain them to canadians.
In canada we have PST and GST
provincial sales tax and government sales tax. In quebec. PST is 8% or something and GST is 7% accross the country. about the same as in Ontario. These are on GOODS, not essentials such as bread. which means buying a TV advertised at 100$ means you pay 115$ at the cash register. a car for 10k means it will cost you 11.5k how does this work in the US??? |
each city/state can set their own sales tax rate. Applies to most things.

State sales tax..
If I buy a $100 TV it it costs $105. then for every 3 months, i take one months worth of income, and flush it down the toilet. for all this, I get my garbage picked up once a week, and the guys throw the barrels into the road like they have a personal beef with them. |
EITHER: State income tax, or state sales tax is deductible on your federal taxes. You gotta pick one or the other, according to an article I read last week with new tax laws.
