NEED HELP- big problem with Internet Explorer- need some help

For some reason on any website I go to and try to open a new window it freezes for a good 30-60 seconds before showing the window. I tried 1 method of re-installing internet explorer sp1 but it didn't fix anything. Anybody got any idea what I can do to fix this? help would be greatly appreciated :)

Go to firefox.com and download it and it's extensions and you will be happy...But also try downloading the latest IE..

I think it has more to do with the memory. Ram.

Are you using a window popup stopper? Shitty ones can cause this kinda delay.

But get Firefox man... trust us, you will never go back.

Vitasoy 11-06-2004 08:18 PM

Sounds like more of a lag issue... Does the CPU usage max out during the load?

Agreed, I love it. I only use IE when I need to test things.

the CPU usage stays the same but now it doesn't even open the new window...it just unfreezes but the page stays the same without opening the new window.

how did you disable nortom from scanning your IE when opening pages?

first, before you try that...go to the norton icon in the taskbar and disable nortons for a minute, then try and surf and see what happens

didn't fix anything but you know what I noticed

if I right-click a couple of times on the current window then it unfreezes and the new window opens

Nima 11-06-2004 08:47 PM

hmm weird the problem is fixed?! but I enabled norton and it still works?

Project-Shadow 11-06-2004 08:48 PM

I had that problem before, check all your background tasks. For me it was Winamp that seemed to delay I.E, pissed me right off. Switch off anything you dont need and try to open I.E, see if the same thing happens, odd's are something is causing I.E to delay because it's either scanning it, trying to produce a sound or has a plug-in that isnt fully compatible.

Nima 11-06-2004 08:48 PM

then I disabled again and now it has the same problem again

this is VERY weird

Nima 11-06-2004 08:50 PM

I noticed after I do that thing where I "right-click" on the current window a few times then everything works fine... when I try to open a new window from a link it works fine but then when I open a whole new browser and go to a website and try to open a link in a new window the same thing happens again! unless I do the right-clicking it's still broken

IE dosnt seem to handle Java very well. Try downloading the lastest update from www.java.com

This is Sun's version and it seems better to me. Of course Firefox is the way to go if you can.

first step- if its a day or two that this problem apeared then do a system restore and set date to a day before problem started.

if that dont work Run Norton's in safe mode

if that doesnt work, just run your xp CD and try a repair.

if that dont work... use firefox..:winkwink:
