How can they advertise something at a sale price then write you a raincheck, then tell you they might never get another shipment of said product in again. WTF

Alos, some of the stupidest people in the world work at Fry's!!!

Fry's is awsome.

Just because you are too slow to get in on the deals, jeez.

hater.

kristin 11-07-2004 01:16 PM

You have to be quick on Fry's deals ... I love that store. But you are right about the rain check thing, that's the thing about Fry's, they never know how much of one thing they will get in.

I would like to see the receipts for a days sales at my local Frys. I've never been in that place without seeing at least 2 big screen TVs going out the door. They must sell 20 a day.

Dagwolf 11-07-2004 01:19 PM

They're cheap, but the service sucks in my experience.

Gynecologist 11-07-2004 01:20 PM

Frys is awsome for cheap deals on some things but I still do mail order on most large items to avoid sales tax.

It's less than you think, I was a supervisor at Fry's right after I left college and believe me the buyers for the company bitch and the store management just as much when they have to give out rainchecks as you are bitching now. One of the big problems is the cashiers in the store, basically you have this mouse on sale for 99 cents or whatever item that's a great price, some local computer store owner will come in and attempt to buy like 100 of them the minute the store doors open. Cashiers and front management are supposed to know to stop them but a lot of times they don't and then there goes all of your stock before regular customers who want to buy just 1 can get in there.

xenophobic 11-07-2004 01:27 PM

After getting 1 in 5 sticks of RAM to working, and several pci cards that had been returned (missing drivers / broken?) put back on their shelf, I buy from several of the dealers on pricewatch - especially the ones that have better feedback.

I get tired of returning crap, that has already been returned, that gets put back on the floor.

a few years ago, I took a mother board back 2 Fry's (didn't work) I was standing in line with 10 or so other people, all returning mother boards. :Graucho the two guys in front of me, had three mother boards two had the box and one didn't.

The clerk told the guys he needed the box also, or they couldn't return the board.

One guy said that's why we got a better deal on one, because it didn't have a box.

The clerk said....... but I need the box or i can't put it back on the shelf. :1orglaugh

When i lived in the Bay Area, I would go thru 4 or 5 hard drives before i got a good one.

But they are the cheapest, after years of buying at Fry's I just stopped, wasn't worth it.

UM YEAH. motion seconded.

dont go to the one in burbank. the worst!

xclusive 11-07-2004 01:38 PM

The rainchecks can be a problem because a lot fo the time they are buying in quantity as a one time special and don't plan on buying that amount or getting the same discount again so they will probably lose money on your raincheck but it's up to the management to have a good supply on hand...

Service sucks, and their sales people are idiots.

For entertainment I sometimes go there and wander around listening to sales people lay it on their fish. When they leave to look something up, I then walk up to the fish and give them some facts so they don't get talked into buying tons of crap they don't need.

you have too much free time on your hands, if you want to help people out, go to big brothers big sisters and volunteer instead of being a saviour to some dickhead who wants a cheap keyboard

jimmyf 11-07-2004 01:46 PM

I remember when Fry's had one store and in was in Santa Clara or Sunnyvale, same shit went on then as goes on now. :1orglaugh

TurboTrucker 11-07-2004 01:58 PM

I've never had a problem with them.

entertainment and community service are two different things

Xenophage 11-07-2004 05:21 PM

hhahahah I worked at frys once upon a time when 386 was still the chip to get and a 1 gig hard drive sold for $1000 buck

I sold quite a few.

I also sold 40 macintosh to steve wozniak

that company is so aass backwards.. yet it somehow continues to thrive and prosper.

So glad I only lasted 9 months. the next year was 1994 and I was just starting to build web pages in html using mosaic browser on a netcom dial up account. yahoo was still at akebono.stanford.edu man those were the days hhehehhe

I also will cruise the pc sales area and "listen in" on the sales pitches. I dont help anyone though with advice. If your moron to fall for their sales pitch then you deserve your $5000 Apple Computer.

Ad3pt 11-07-2004 05:57 PM

I stopped shopping there when I was returning 4/5 items over a year ago.

Vitasoy 11-07-2004 05:58 PM

I wish we had a Fry's around here. :(

CET 11-07-2004 06:07 PM

I've never shopped at a Fry's and I'm not hearing much good. I wonder if there are 100 happy customer for every pissed off poster here, or if this is actually an accurate set of descriptions.

d00t 11-07-2004 06:44 PM

frys roCKS! :thumbsup :thumbsup

bringer 11-07-2004 06:45 PM

bait and switch
very illegal

pornguy 11-07-2004 06:47 PM

I hate when that happens.
some companies sucks!!!

V_RocKs 11-07-2004 07:15 PM

Hehe, caveat emptor... is all I can say.

Well, actually I am big winded so I will keep going. Fry's is a good place to shop for nerds. If you are not one, then step out because you will get burned.

I notice shit like stuff on sale because a forklift crushed it. Some people can't see those tell-tale signs like an acordianed box or the sounds of inside pieces clanging around...

A friend of mine bought a referbished monitor that said referbished all over it when he bought it. Trinitron or some shit and normally about $700 and he got it for $250. Good deal, but no matter what you do with the controls, the picture is slightly out of whack... he bitches about Fry's on a daily basis now...

is anyone even reading this?
If you think I am short winded, read on:

And even further reading by someone who works there and does a tell all book on it.

That is a fucked up way to do business.
