How to setup an IRC server ?
 

Does anyone know any good links on howto setup an IRC server on a linux box ?

find an ircd and use their tut on install

Go to freshmeat, type in IRCD and then download it, it will have an INSTALL file. Use it.

Or go on dalnet or undernet and go to a room like 0wn3d or pax0r or r0ut3r and ask one of them to do it. Most likely you will find out that you have had one running on port 24534 for about 2 years now... welcome to the 31337 world.

it would be better if you went to a smaller network without the nonsense of efnet or dalnet or undernet. there is a network with some of the webmasters i am guessing you could make channel if its webmaster related. i am not sure what you are using it for?

use someone elses network (with persmisson)

you are just asking for attacks on your server by even thinking of installing any ircd

people attack irc servers just for fun anymore

I use hybrid-ircd because I used to run a node for a larger network.

But when I get off my lazy ass, I am going to try Ptlink. The reason being the hybrid nick name length limitation sucks.

Ptlink security is good, and they have nice services software.
