Diet Coke withdrawals???

I have been drinking Diet Coke for years, but I decided to quit "cold turkey" yesterday.
Today I started getting these fucked up headaches.
Anyone else ever dealt with this?
:throwup

I am in no position to judge or comment,

but what you are experiencing may very well be psychological

just try not to think about it...

pornguy 11-09-2004 06:58 PM

I went thru that before.
Just slow down on it. Drink 2 less a day than you were used to.
Like that for about a week, then go down another 1 or 2 for 1 week or so, and so on.
Better than the headaches.

Or drink some coffee. That will put the caffeine back in your system.

Good Idea, thanks....I'm off to 7-11 to get a single can!

caffeine withdraws are a bitch, drink a little coffee, tea or coke or get some cheap over the counter migraine pills at the drugstore, they are usually loaded with caffeine

hottoddy 11-09-2004 08:15 PM

Yeah, I would agree it's the caffeine withdrawal. They are notorious for splitting headaches. Diet Coke has a fair amount, and you could get addicted if you drank a fair amount daily. The "taper" method works well when weening yourself from caffeine. Cold turkey can be a bitch.

Head 11-09-2004 08:34 PM

I'm not suprised; coke is shit.

Screaming 11-09-2004 08:35 PM

caffeine is one of the worst addictions that people have no idea they have

I've been thinking about giving up Mt Dew to get rid of the caffeine. I don't drink *that* much of it and I've started drinking several glasses of water each day, as well. It's the headaches that have kept me from ditching it all together.

collegegirlvids 11-09-2004 10:01 PM

I have a diet coke every day for breakfast

skyechase 11-09-2004 11:31 PM

Take Excedrin. It will help with small doses of caffeine. :) I haven't been drinking regular coke for a long time now. And man, it's like an addiction. I see it and still want it but I'll order a glass or water with lemon. - sucks - but I still do it.

Orsm 11-09-2004 11:32 PM

Headaches will only last for a day or two... happens to me every time.

reynold 11-10-2004 09:21 AM

I love diet coke but nothings seems to happen to me like that.

CaptainHowdy 05-29-2016 08:10 AM

I quitted caffeine and something similar happened to me the next couple days.

AdultKing 05-29-2016 08:25 AM

Nice thread bump. Now I'm off to get a coke.

BAKO 05-29-2016 10:23 AM

I quit about 5 years ago and I don't remmeber expericencing any withdrawls.

Sly 05-29-2016 10:42 AM

I was drinking 4 sugar-free Red Bull's daily for 2 years. Last summer I decided to try the cold turkey route. It was an absolute disaster. I felt terrible, my head was killing me. That experiment lasted 2 days.

Earlier this year, I once again decided that it was time to cut back. I am now doing 2 instead of 4, and plan on dropping it to 1 next week.

Here is what I did:
1) Isolated the times that I was drinking the items. I had 2 for breakfast and 2 for lunch.
2) Determine which of those 4 would be easiest to eliminate and replace with another beverage. I chose lunch, the replacement beverage was a 16 oz glass of water.
3) Focus on drinking only 3 daily for 2 weeks. That was the only goal. If I cheated, I would have to do something really terrible that I absolutely would not want to do. In this case, it was donate money to a particular presidential candidate. That was very good incentive for me and worked like a charm. After about a week, I got used to the water replacement and the 2nd week was not such a big deal.
4) After the 3 can routine became no problem, I reduced to a 2 can routine by simply eliminating one of the morning beverages. I chose not to replace as it wasn't really necessary. The presidential donation penalty was still in place.

I am now doing 2 daily instead of 4 and drinking an additional 16 oz of water daily. Very beneficial all around.

Try and cut it out completely Sly, they are not good for your health. They spike your blood sugar levels and can lead to insulin resistance.

Plus the cravings come from the gut microbiome, most junk foods feed that bad gut microbiome which is something you don't want considering your gut microbiome contributes to a big % of your immune health.

Do a bit of research on Organic Kefir Grains, which are a great healthy replacement for all fizzy drinks.

It's also worth buying a quality pro biotic like VLS #3

a real one with all that sugar? that's your advice? How is that better than diet coke?

This is a caffeine issue, nothing more. if he drank 6 coffees a day it would be the same issue if not worse. I generally have one coffee a day tops, but I have stopped completely for the last few months. I'm a bit sensitive to caffeine myself so doesn't take much to keep me up all night. If you were drinking a lot ease off it instead and you will be fine, whatever you do don't replace it with sugar.

Colmike9 05-30-2016 07:20 AM

I drink a lot of Diet Coke, too. If you take it away, I'll kill someone... :upsidedow

It's $2 for a 12 pack of Kroger brand, though, so it's not too bad. Few cents a day.

isn't it common knowledge that aspartame/sweeteners are a great deal worse than sugar? The zero calorie stuff taking the crown as basically being canned salt?

Both original and diet Cola is a chemical poison. Go with Kvass.

I am surprised, you are smarter than that. Plus weren't that you who posted that $20/week meal routine? Does not correlate well with redbull insanity :)
Who and why would think drinking 4 redbulls saily would be a good idea? :helpme:error

I wanted to post same to the OP: you deserve that for being so stupid to drink that much coke on a regular basis.

Like with a beer, you have to find the sort which tastes best for you. Personally I do prefer a classic home-made one brewed by this recipe: Kvas - Russiapedia Of Russian origin.

All those commercial sorts don't testate as good to me :2 cents:

Like everyone else said...ween yourself off slowly. But you're doing yourself a favor by not continuing to put that poison in your system. While it has zero calories, the long term effects of it messing with your insulin sensitivity could end up adding extra weight.

me too...and if I'm going to have a Coke, then I have a real one.

With pizza or Chinese food it's the only choice of beverage.
