Wireless router problem

There are 2 other connections it picks up from my neighbours...it picks it up at random times, i guess when they turn their computer on. Its not on 24 hrs/day. Whenever it shows up in my network connections it lags my connection. I have my own router selected ofcourse but for some reason my connection keeps on getting slower and slower till it dies, then i have to pull the plug out of my router and back in and then it works again but slow...this happens till my neighbours shut down their puter (i think)

This is so fucking annoying, hours a day i cant surf the web with a normal speed. Its like 56k but then slower. Anybody know any solutions to this?

(deja-vu)

Have you got encryption activated?

justsexxx 11-16-2004 06:45 AM

Can't you change the channel?

I would say it hasnt got anything to do with your neighbour if your connection is encrypted. Many routers bog down after a while for some reason. I usually restart mine every day....

Are you on cable or DSL? I had a problem where the laptop constantly lost its connection and was slow when it was connected. I am on cable....and recently I had to have the cable guys here because we were having problems with cabletv. They said my connections sucked inside the house....they put in new wall connections, the connections between the tv and dvd player and digital box etc.

I heard the one cable guy ask the other if doing this would help with my wireless problems (which it shouldn't)...but they guy said yes...it may indeed improve it.

Now he didn't say why....my assumption is perhaps some of the crappy cords we had and connectors might have inhibited the signal. Anyways....I went from constant disconnections to zero. They left 5 days ago and my wireless has not lost its connection once.

I'm assuming you're running Windows XP, with SP1 installed.

While I don't condone SP2 in all instances, the new Wireless support allows you to mark certain connections as "Non Preferred".

Tell me more about what OS you use.

Alex -

Regarding another post that you had emailed me from, I tried to email you back, and my email bounced. I had also tried to email support@, but that bounced, as well. Do you have an alternate email address that you can use to get ahold of me?

Thanks

You dont happen to be using the Linksys WRK54G router are you?

nippa 11-16-2004 06:56 PM

I've had crap with mine too. I updated the firmware which helped a lot (particularly with SP2 probs) but I still seem to need to restart the thing every day to get a reliable connection:-(

Blow up ( I mean liberate ) your neighboors...

What right they have to interfer with your router ....
They could be using yours for spamming ...

Preemptive strile against them ...

Seriously, never heard of such a problem. I pick-up with my USrobotics 2 other connections, but it stays on mine ...
