Considering that the dumbest people in the state surely dont even vote, what would that have to do with anything?

I lived in Florida for 8 years and I can say they ranked it too high on this list.

And its a ranking of the public schools, not the actual intelligence of that states residents. A lot of people move after high school to other states. The list is worthless.

Calfornia is #43, and went for Kerry. So what exactly does this have to do with voting? Of course the #1 went to Kerry

Bush winning is fine by me, a weaker America makes for a stronger Canada. It's America that's fucked. Not only is the American economy on the brink of collapsing, he's proven to the world that American military power isn't infinite. After he starts a couple more wars, your military will be thinned out and your economy will be extremely weak, and you'll have no allies left in the world. Meanwhile our economy is booming and we're building up our military, plus everyone loves us... I figure Canada can take over Alaska, and maybe pick off a couple northern states while we're at it. Hell, if Bush stays in power long enough, eventually you guys will be our 11th province.

My kids are in a public school, and although I don't always like the school, they do a great job teaching my children. They are both well ahead of where they should be when it comes to the "standardized testing". But then again, that's the problem with these rankings. Standardized testing botches the averages every time.

I don't know who else is with me on this one, but in my opinion Standardized Tests should be done away with as they are now.

Born, Raised, and Educated in Massachusetts. Took that #1 placement and parlay'd by moving to a dumb state (Florida #39), where there was little or no competition.

Why deal with a state full of smart people when you can do deal with a state full or morons?

Unfortunately, too many people understand the same thing, thus the state is getting flooded with vultures.

It's impossible to generalise and down to the individual...

The only thing that is more than obvious - it hits ya within 24 hours of entering the US - is that there is a layer of what can only be described at utterly DUMB.

Of all the countries I've ever visited, the US has gotta be the dumbest. When you look at the bordering countries, Canada and Mexico, (for the benefit of those deficent in geography), this is not the case with either.

The reason is probably not actual stupidity, but the level of ignorance about anything outside their small world accompanied by what is clearly a problem in the education system and may be a "culture thing" as well, - or lack of one.

This was not always the case - US education, - at least in some named places, was excellent. These centers of education are now longer on the map of ratings, having been replaced by universities/colleges in other countries.

On the other hand, fortunately there are many very bright people in the US with a broader outlook on life - usually folks who got out of the state they were born in and realized there is an actual world outside the US.
