Ways to deal with people who owe you money?

What are some good methods you guys have used to deal with people who owe you money? Both locally and across the country? Let's say for dollar amounts under $1,000

Roadtrips, friends or advertise in their local papers explaining that these people owe money, naming and shaming and possibly offering a reward ;).

There is no good way.

Remember they put you in the awkward spot to have to ask for payment when they kinda got relaxed about the debt.

You owe no courtesy, just ask for it.

"When can I expect the next payment on the money loaned you"..

Email works wonders, balls are x20 the size when we don't have to go face to face or talk on the phone.

I'd be interested in methods that are say 5 figure.

It is very amazing how friends will screw you around over a simple $50. I am not worried about those guys though, they can go fuck themselves. There are people who owe me $500 here and $800 there and $300 there that I would like to eventually get back.

If I don't get the money back, at least I get some expensive education out of it. You learn from your mistakes.

We use an international collections agency, they take 20% of whatever is owed (if they collect).

this is a good idea. it's like shaming them so they would pay what they owe.

Whats a good one for dollar amounts under $1,000? Are there any account set up or transaction fees or is it strictly 20%?

VanessaG 11-16-2004 02:07 PM

What if someone respected on GFY owns you 1700$?

Would this be legal? Like if I put an ad in the newspaper or on websites with their full name, address, telephone number, etc? Or would be be violating privacy rights?

I dont think you can put the bad checks up for everyone to see anymore... some places might but it is illegal. So it might also be illegal to put it in the paper

Paper trail followed by small claims court.

Gynecologist 11-16-2004 03:39 PM

More than one time I have hired a PI to dig up dirt and then I told the person I would mail the info to their relatives and law enforcement if I was not paid.

Worked both times.

I'd certainly look into that before doing it. Funny idea though.

Photoshop their heads onto gay porn pics and send them to their family.

Yes. I am in the middle of that now with one client. I keep tacking on late fees each month as well. Record every penny spent trying to collect the debt from phone calls to certified letters.

I hate dead beats.

xclusive 11-16-2004 03:47 PM

Keep everything professional and hire an agency to do it for you and if they don't come through take them to small claims court...
