I believe this is a standard clause nowadays. You record 3-5 albums for a label and they have the right to put together a Greatest Hits album.

theres a punk pop group in the uk who are releasing a greatest hits for christmas.... about 2 months after their SECOND ALBUM. They have only been around since late 2002. its fucking terrible
