There was a movie called: Sweet Home Alabama...and one of the lines was

I have yet to meet a true southerner that wasnt a racist mental midget. My ex's grandmother from Texas came to visit once with bible in her hand, preaching Jesus and talking about how God put hahahahahahas on the planet to serve the white man. These people make me sick to my stomach.

It's one of the great tragedies of history that all the intelligent people in the USA have to be punished because slightly over half the country is stuck in the early 20th century. There are a lot of very smart people in the South, but they seem to be outnumbered by these ignorant rednecks who think they have the right to control other people's lives. They think they hate the Taliban, yet they want American women to die before getting an abortion, or using birth control. They're too ignorant of history to understand why religion controlling government is horribly wrong. It's really a shame that these people haven't caught up to the rest of civilized society yet.
