What is it with Canadian customs problems???

We got detained in Quebec by Canadian customs on the way to the Qwebec Expo a couple months ago. Searched all ouf stuff and terrorized us for an hour before letting us go.

Good luck DH!

Not Canadian customs. Canadian customs are usually pretty cool.

It's the US Customs remote units in both Montreal and Toronto that pre-clear people destined for the USA. They are total bitches.

baddog 11-18-2004 08:19 AM

I hear Elle got turned away also

canplayer 11-18-2004 08:19 AM

Canadian Customs is like that. They will harass the nice smiling people, who want to do legitimate business or just come back from a family vacation. I always get stopped coming back into the country. I'm young and I travel with friends/girlfriend so they suspect I'm bringing narcotics back into the country.

baddog 11-18-2004 08:19 AM

They are just keeping the riff-raff out

chowda 11-18-2004 08:21 AM

the canadian customs said that they would offer another flight if they delay yours.

or so they did for me when i was in toronto.

Trax 11-18-2004 08:26 AM

wow this is fucked up....

didn't he say anything about the reasons?

I mean... does he have a bad record or something?

sherie 11-18-2004 08:30 AM

One good reason why I NEVER say I am traveling for business.:2 cents:

Exactly, I get pulled over, and I look over and I see all the 'suspicious' looking people go right on through.

A couple of years ago he was turned away because he had a one way ticket to Alabama to visit his Dad, he was going to drive back to Canada in his Dad's car to return it because the lease was over. They didn't believe him and wouldn't let him in. Ever since he has had a hard time. They have him "flagged"

Pipecrew 11-18-2004 08:35 AM

Canadian customs is a joke, they ask you if you are carrying any illegal fruits..

American Customs are the hard asses, they locked me in a room on a steel bench for an hour before coming in and grilling me for 45 minutes.. I missed my flights and had to stay over night in a hotel.

Didn't the same thing happen to him on his trip to Curacao. Sounds like they've definitely flagged him for one reason or another. Seems to be happening pretty consistently. Good luck bro!

hershie 11-18-2004 08:40 AM

What would be the consequences if you say you are going to the US for "vacation" or "personal" reasons and not "business" and they find out you were lying? Will you get flagged forever, turned away...?

I was about to say to US Customs I was going to a convention in Vegas last Internext, but someone convinced me to not dare say that to them.

Tera 11-18-2004 08:41 AM

I am flagged with Canadian Customs, I hate it. Everytime I come back to Canada I have to go through immigration and a big onslaught of questions and sometimes all my stuff gets searched.

All because I tried to get my work visa at the airport and didn't have enough paper work..

I hope DH makes it!

oh yeah lol
can imagine that... but then again this it is still ridicilous
If I was to illegally imigrate I'd simply buy a return ticket

fucked the money lol

Peaches 11-18-2004 08:43 AM

They should have just come through the Mexican border - we let them all in there :)

Sarah - GTS 11-18-2004 09:18 AM

He's on his way back from the Airport, they finally cleared him but he has to wait until Tomorrow to travel to LA.

I'm sure Magnus and Rob will toast him with a Pint as they party without him

A few months ago when I was trying to move to the USA ... The people I spoke to on the phone said I could get my citizenship once I got back to the states. Customs in Toronto wouldn't let me through and I was flagged also. I couldn't fly into the US until I got my US passport from the consulate in Toronto and I still had problems getting through US customs even with a passport saying I was a US citizen.

I got pulled into that room to the left... DH will know what I'm talking about... and I could hear the supervisor yelling at the customs officer. She was like "But he is flagged" His response was " He is a citizen of the USA Get him through now....LOL stupid bitch was arguing with her supervisor for like 5 minutes and he just kept saying "Get him through now"

I fucking hate customs people :feels-hot

WarChild 11-18-2004 09:39 AM

I guess they got my message. Hopefully they detain the criminal and search his anal cavity for the dirty bomb I know he's carrying.

DH = terrorist criminal that must be stopped. :Graucho

coming in from Frankfurt last week, got tru the preliminary booth inspection, where they had a dog running up and down the aisles. But soon as I stepped tru the door leading out of there, there were at least 8 customs guys dressed in jack boots and paramiltary uniforms, doing a secondary grilling. Looked liked a bunch of NAZI henchmen... there they asked me a bunch of questions again:feels-hot I hate fucking customs......both sides of the border. Seems to me its much easyer in Europe now.

mkx 11-18-2004 10:01 AM

I am flagged by both US customs and Canada customs. It's a big hassle and not good for tax purposes. Oh well, another 5 years before they supposedly remove it from their record.

Elli 11-18-2004 02:52 PM

Yeah, I was officially denied entry to the US for my first time yesterday. Missed my flight and everything. I guess they're worried that I'm stealing a job from an American, because I needed all that NAFTA paperwork. You know, sometimes it's not worth it being honest to those guys.

This is American customs in the YVR Airport, btw. Boy, was that fun.

Damn elli, what did you say to them as the reason you're going down?
I never ever say i'm goin down for biz, sometimes i even mail cards n promo shit over to the US just in case, cuz i'm so paranoid. I've never had a problem with airport US customs but have been denied at the land border, a big part of it is because I got extremely cocky. Never had a problem with Canadian customs,= though.

BVF 11-18-2004 03:15 PM

I as a black man never have problems with customs. Canadian or American.

Well, I tried the "meeting friends for fun" line on them, but that guy was a dick and sent me right into interrogation. I decided to be honest in there, since I had emails on my laptop talking about the show, etc etc. I have a feeling I was flagged, actually, though I have no reason to be.

Once they know you're involved in porn, you're flagged. I was honest with them and told them what I do for a living. The conversation immediately became hostile and went to "so you make child pornography?". It was a horrible experience. Ever since that time, Canada Customs grabs me up each time. :(

So does this ever happen coming from the States going into Canada? If you get in once or twice okay, are you generally okay from there on out? Or at some point are they likely to snag you up when you're coming in, and then it will start happening every time?

GTS Mark 11-18-2004 04:09 PM

Hey guys.

Everything is cool now, I was brought into us customs in Toronto. They seem to want to "chat" with me everytime I enter the US. I don't have a criminal record or anything out of the ordinary. I just travel to the US alot for business and ever since I got denied entry 3 years ago I have been running into hassles.

I spoke to the inspector and he asked all the regular questions they usually ask. He could see that I go through this thing all the time and he cut me a break. He approved me for travel to the US but by that time I had already missed my flight. I went back to the ticketing agency and asked to be rebooked, the next flight going to LA actually connected thru Calgary but if I took that flight I would have to go through customs in Calgary. LOL!

I figured if they gave me a hard time in Toronto and approved me there, then they would have given me an even harder time in Calgary. I'd rather get stuck in Toronto than in Calgary (no offence Calgarians!)

Anyways I am rebooked for tomorrow morning, hopefully it will be a lot less painless than today. Hope you guys rip it up tonite in LA :thumbsup

DH

lol, Okay but let's say you're coming from the States and you don't have a Canadian passport. Does this sort of thing ever happen to US citizens going into Canada?
