Gunan try linux..which one?
 

ok, i have a 4 cd set of Fedora core 2 and a gentoo live cd..which one should i try? im a total linux n00b so be nice :)

I'm a Red Hat fan so I would say go with the fedora. The install is pretty easy too and it supports more hardware than other major linux installs.

I haven't tried gentoo, but I've heard good things about it.

Since you're a linux newbie, going with fedora will be a better decision because you'll be able to find help a lot easier on searches and such.

I have been using suse 9.0 and Yoper
and I like both of them. Easy install, easy to maintain, and plenty of avail apps.

Since your a n00b w/ it, go w/ fedora, after a while try gentoo, it's what we prefer to use inhouse :thumbsup

I haven't used gentoo personally, but from what I know of it, it uses the philosophy of compiling everything from source for your machine. If you're into that and see linux as a toy and like coding and waiting long periods while things compile then go ahead and try gentoo.

If you want things to 'just work' right NOW then fedora is your better bet.

I use FC2 good stuff.

Go for Slackware. Use it as my workstation and it loves to run on servers. Never dies.
