never cashed a cheque from the us

im in the UK, does anyone have any idea whether halifax charge anything for this....

Thanks

PS. I cant bear to go into my branch to find out, they will probably tell me i have to arrange a meeting next week to find out.

Do they have a phone? :)

Most banks are likely to charge for depositing a foreign cheque. Prepare for a possible flooring when you hear the fee.

swedguy 11-24-2004 04:10 AM

I got a good laugh when I went to a different branch than the one I usually go to. They wanted to charge me $110 to cash ONE check :)

blazin 11-24-2004 04:25 AM

£9 for as many checks I can fit on their form at Barclays. Also worth note that they do make a little from the exchange rate they give you.

ClamSmacker 11-24-2004 05:38 AM

FYI $10 (aussie dollars) to bank an international cheque here!

kelly 11-24-2004 05:40 AM

If I remember correctly Halifax wanted to charge me around £35 per US cheque, Lloyds are £8 for as many as you want to deposit in one go :)

Satisfaction 11-24-2004 05:46 AM

cashing US checks over here used to be good :(

coolfuck 11-24-2004 05:47 AM

DutchTeenCash 11-24-2004 05:48 AM

Not if you use currency negotitation with Barclays - next working day

r0nin 11-24-2004 06:35 AM

5u$s for small checks here, above 1k it's about 1,5% not bad :)

Wiggles 11-24-2004 06:42 AM

holy thats retarded, i don't get charged anything to cash USD checks.

Hosting-Quote 11-24-2004 06:46 AM

Last time I cashed a cheque, it was a one of charge of £8 for as many cheques as I wished :) has to fill in a form to do this too.

This was HSBC btw

twist 11-24-2004 06:53 AM

Most european banks are not keen on checks. I pay 12 euros in the Netherlands. That's really awesome with a 50$ dollar check....

With natwest if u get a US $ account they charge u less and you can sign a form to say if it bounces you'll cover it and they will credit you in about a week.

Theo 11-24-2004 07:26 AM

unless they are non profitable, they'll charge :-)

Basic_man 11-24-2004 07:26 AM

i havnt spoken to wegcash yet, but from what i see they dont offer another option, except wire, and the minimum is 1000. It would take me quite a long time to reach that. Ill ask the bank tomorrow, i have a meeting at my local branch because ive lost my book for my savings account. Hopefully ill speak to someone from Wegcash tonight, but from what i see they dont offer any other epassporte

Thanks for the response

Ev

Just out of interest, if you havnt banked a US check before, do you have sponsors who pay in £ pounds , Id like some of those too :)

One option to reduce fees is to get a US $ account. I had one with HSBC....Then you can trasfer only the $$ you need each month to a sterling account.

Project-Shadow 11-24-2004 09:39 AM

Well natwest charges commision of about 1% + £2 flat fee... although I doubt their capability of cashing in U.S cheques anymore, they're recently been cashing them in as CAD, fuck knows why and added an extra $150 charge for each cheque I cash. It's mad.. time to switch bank.

credit unions do it for $8

commonwealth usually screws US checks up which means the clearance time is only 2-3 days from deposit. Also if checks are from the same bank, its $10 for UNLIMITED checks :)

Manowar 11-24-2004 11:09 AM

Depositing it would be easier
