I totally agree with you, I was not trying to make the point that there was a conspiracy to supply Iraq with weapons so we could ambush them later, only supplying the fact that we had been in business with them in the past.

But this is the flaw our leaders seem to never learn, just because they are your allies now does not mean they always will be, yet our presidents still seem to think we should give out weapons to every card shark who happens to hate the same people we hate, only to turn those same weapons against us in the future. It has happened like this countless times in our history yet they still follow the same policy thinking this time it will be different.
