Help - Comcast or DirectTV?

Moving the end of this month and can't decided to go Comcast or DirectTV. I've had directtv and tivo for years but the on-demand with comcast is looking interesting.

Anyone here tried both?

Thanks:thumbsup

VIPimp 12-06-2004 09:12 PM

As long as you dont have any wind or rain or snow of any kind.... go directv. I had it and the slightest bit of wind or weather at all shut it down. It was a waste in my opinion.

Comcast is always on.... bad weather or not.

Depends also on what type of TV you have as well.....dont get stuck with the old tech if you have a HD TV. Most of them have packages for the new shit.

10' C-band dish with digital upgrades:thumbsup

Comcast with On Demand is nice.. ;)

abadfish 12-06-2004 10:24 PM

I currently have directv with tivo and love it. I've had comcast and charter in the past... and wasn't too happy... The new on demand and tivo options with charter look cool... and I'm sure its the same with what comcast has in your area.

I think overall directv has great quality and weather has never been a problem... I think the cable commercials are a bunch of BS. My sat is attached to the side of the house and it doesn't budge... my dads large c band dish goes out all the time and mine never does.

$pikes 12-06-2004 10:25 PM

Thanks everyone! great info..

SinSational 12-06-2004 10:41 PM

i have both. directv is great for sports. comcast on demand is cool. only reason i got directv in the first place was because i had a card programmer and got all the channels for free. they black listed all the HU cards so can't get free channels anymore. once nfl season is over then i'll probably drop directv all together.

Pornwolf 12-07-2004 12:26 AM

Comcast, definitely.

BuckLover 12-07-2004 12:27 AM

What about Dish Network!:thumbsup They are excellent!

Baxter 12-07-2004 12:30 AM

i have charter with on demand and love it had the dish and the snow up here fucks everything up bad

Jace 12-07-2004 12:33 AM

dual tuner directivo, nothing that comcast has out can even touch it...even with the occasional outage from rain...which normally only lasts 5-10 minutes...but ALWAYS at prime time

DirectTV all the way. Not a problem in the last 7 years. Cousin just got Dish Network 2 weeks ago and is already screaming bloody hell about the shitty service.

And if you get DIrectTV hit me up for a ref code -- I could use a discount on my next bill.

Rantan 12-07-2004 12:45 AM

that OnDemand crap is really weird, you have to skip through about 10 mins of commercials, and there often isnt what you really want, unless you have EVERY CHANNEL. DTV...atw

you know, i tried that, but I kept getting too many brazilian soap operas...and the only way to change channels was to throw a Shlitz can at the garbage can lid

On the contrary, I lived in Minnesota for years with Directv and even in some of the worst weather (and Minnesota is known for some pretty intense snow and rain storms) I would still have a good signal with Directv.

Good to know Warden... I've had dtv in Los Angeles for years but hell.. there's never any weather here so I was conserned what the Colorado climate might do to directtv.

Thanks!:thumbsup

Comcast has to be the worst cable company I've ever dealt with in every part of the country I've seen it in.

Excellent internet?

um maybe its changed over the past year and a half, but i doubt it. Slow on both the up and down.

MandyBlake 12-07-2004 08:28 AM

I had Comcast for around 4 years and had no problems with them.
Never tried DirectTV though.

MickeyG 12-07-2004 08:34 AM

directv with tivo hands down. For me it was cheaper then cable too.

$pikes 12-07-2004 10:06 PM

Thanks everyone! Appreicate the info :thumbsup

videoxpix 12-07-2004 10:40 PM

Hey Joe-Comacst on the east coast now offers 10/month DVR services too. It works with all programming, so with that & the on demand the content & features are there, but the interface really really slow, with no preview like you get with directtv or other cable companies.

Sosa 12-07-2004 11:07 PM

How much is everyone paying for DirecTV and tivo? I'm thinking of getting it also.

PornGeneral 12-07-2004 11:09 PM

Comcast HSI
DirecTV w/tivo dual tunner
Extra upstairs receiver

The only way!
Bill is cheaper also when combined.

Young 12-07-2004 11:11 PM

Why compromise any of your signal? Especially if you have an HDTV set. Get the direct line (cable).

I have Direct TV but only because the people at Comcast are a bunch of dicks and don't deserve my money. As soon as I get an HDTV set I'm going to go crawling back though.

smack 12-07-2004 11:15 PM

i like comcast because they have the bomb diggity 3meg internet connection too. and on demand is the shit.

Mr. Pat 12-07-2004 11:41 PM

Comcast. i fucking hate the dish from DT.

Kimmykim 12-07-2004 11:45 PM

DirectTV with their Tivo unit. You can't beat it in SoCal. Especially if you like sports since DirectTV is the only one with NFL Sunday ticket, March Madness, all that kind of stuff.

On demand would be nice but Tivo kinda takes care of that, I would say. ;)
