I know we kid around a lot about it, but for the record I do gladly welcome and invite you guys that have a different vision of how it should look to send me what you think would look better.

If we like what we see and implement it nice $ and a continuing relationship on other domains upcoming.

You'll get a much better design from them than you would waiting for some of the amateur designers to give you something in a contest.

We work with one of the brighest CSS developers in the industry, his work is comparable to Eric Meyer and Douglas Bowman (of wired.com and blogger.com fame). I truly feel your site could benefit from someone with a strong knowledge of usability, standards, and cross-broswer compatibility issues. Please note, this is not a for-proit referral, just something I think you could greatly benefit from.

If i had a domain like men.com i would make it more upmarket for a gq, esquire style crowd rather than your ordinary american male...

they spend $$$ and usually are busy (eg. business men)... plus you can sell products like aveda, nivea and other toilette/skin care products...

one thing i see missing on the page is gadgets... guys like to see the latest pda or cell phone so they can show it off in the next boardroom meeting...

I don't think he would be suitable for ordinary static mainstream projects, but his Flash work kicks ass!

How much is his general rate for a Flash project? If you know off the top of your head...

Good guess, but no, Jacob's theories are a bit strict. He did produce one of the most popular, if not the most popular csszengarden.com entries though.

he can do total mainstream too, but i would have to ask him, newyorkfries.com that project they paid him $10k, hes working on another project for $40k right know but i think flash is involved in that one. i would need to know what you need done. each project is different.

just say hes doing good for a young kid living at home :)

give you an example:

my friends spa: quoted about $30k
my friends online car parts: quoted about $60k

the content area is a little weak, but you could get some appealing adspace where it says "the bedroom: diveristy is key" for your personals and such.

regardless of how you choose to design/redesign the site. it's very important that you hire a designer that is capable of structuring the site in xhtml / css. I've done this with a couple sites so far: www.healthygo.com if you view the source you will see it is structered without tables, and the coding is very minimal.

i like mine because it's very clean yet appealing and would be quick to load - oh and because i designed it :)

also - if you decide to redesign your site, be SURE to restructure it in such a way that you can easily connect all of your partnership sites together in one central easy to access location. preferably it'd be nice if each of your partnership co-branded sites were designed under the same flow.

men.com is 'supposed' to be a portal. Portals should be fast loading with minimal flash (or none), and your talking about 2advanced? :1orglaugh moron

Flash is useless (or as Jakob Nielson says... 99% useless).

It's only good for intros or brief presentations.

- the contest was only for a header.... everything below it was what was on men.com at the current time.

yeah, knowing what I know now - i wouldn't do a navigation in flash for SEO purposes. but the design I posted still can be easily done in normal css/html.

2advanced is really BAD ASS. but yeah, perhaps not the best solution for men.com (due to flash)

Galleryseek's designs look pretty clean.

If there is one thing I've learned and this goes for myself as well its next to impossible to have a room of people look at a site and all agree they like the design.

When it comes to web sites everyone has their own likes and dislikes for color, spacing, buttons, flash, backgrounds, fonts, and on and on. There are so many elements and that is why you get such a variety of opinions.

The hardest thing so far for me has just been getting everyone on the teams to agree. Its a real challenge.

Gallerseek just did this for us. And both are sharp designs.
