I'm about to hire my first employee. Any advice?

He's a friend of a friend, I talked to him tonight and he said he'd be interested in some part time work he can do from home and I want some part time help.

Im just going to have him do freesites and galleries for me.
I have no idea what Im going to pay him. I guessing around $10/hr or so is decent since the work is so easy. And just have him work like 2-3 hours a day.

Any of you ever hire a non industry person to help you out?
Any advice for mistakes to avoid?

Mefo 12-14-2004 01:10 AM

you should teach him very well how to make those galleries/freesites because it's pretty hard for non industry people to make a good one right away

Hope he has some sort of computer skill or your gonna have a shitty time trying to train him

Raven 12-14-2004 01:11 AM

Good luck to you. I don't think I would ever hire my friends.

You know...that old 'keep business and friendship separate' thing.

If you do, though..make sure you write it down...clear and concise...

Pay Scale
Examples of what you want

dont teach him your business... :2 cents:

NEVER EVER hire someone you started out as friends with

EntreNous 12-14-2004 01:13 AM

Make sure he has really nice tits, and gives good head

Marcus 12-14-2004 01:13 AM

yeah he's got 2 machines at home so he knows his way around the net. Ill show him everything though. this is what I liek because I can train him to do it the way I want to.

I just dont want him to figure out how to do it himself and want to do it on his own and not for me anymore.
I hope not, that would suck.

he's a friend of a friend. I could give 2 shits about him if he turns out to hate me.

erm, that will happen pretty much FOR SURE.

SmutGiant 12-14-2004 01:18 AM

2-3 hours a day to build AND submit free sites AND galleries? Damn, send him my way I'll give him $15/hour lol...

Anyways if it were me I would have content ready templates made to go and just get him to do some basic touch ups and submit. You don't want him to get too good :winkwink:

Trent Edison 12-14-2004 01:19 AM

Yeah, I have to agree, he should be really dumb if after a couple of days of work he wont realize that he can do freesites and galleries for himself and have all the money...

Never hire an employee... too many responsibilities.

Make them an independent contractor...

Project-Shadow 12-14-2004 01:24 AM

I personally would outsource if I wanted someone to do grunt-work.. they dont get any funny idea's and work for peanuts, they also know what they're doing.

lol, maybe if I have him do something he's not into, like tranny then he wont be interested enough to click those webmaster links.

I agree. At first I think all im going to have him do is submit.
I have about 300 galleries of my own, I'll just have him resubmit those for a month or 2 and hopefully he'll get better and it will be easy for him to just put an index page on them and turn them into freesites and submit those too. I wont have him build anything.

Anyways the guy is a waiter probably busting his ass to make $60 a night, so an extra $30 a day to sit on his ass hitting "submit" hopefully will be good for him.

If he's expendable, then have at it....

No problem and good luck to you. :)

Marcus if you need another guy but with already a few years with
hands on with the industry, he is currently looking for work and
does amazing galleries and just needs to be told what kind of work
to do.

ICQ me if interested.

Get a signed agreement detailing his responsibilities and the payment arrangement.

Friends have a tendency to short memories.

Prospective employees should be shot on sight. No mercy should be shown

It will save you a heap of problems in the future..

Of course you won't believe a word I say but give it a couple of months and you will wish you had done what I suggested.
