I'd never get a bird.

My g/fs parents have lovebirds. One died, and the other just picks its own feathers out.

get a Sun Conure! they are great birds, used to have one named Luey that looked just like this but with more green

I've not got contact info here, but check out the chance of rescuing a parrot if that is what you want.

There are plenty parrots in "sactuaries" at the moment where folks have chucked them out cos they are not willing to spend their lives with em - often a parrot will outlive us:-)

These "parrot homes" are trying to ship them back to their natural habitat - places like Costa Rica - but there is a possible disease problem if the imported birds mixed with the indigeous species and then wiped them out.

I don't own birds - so no expert, there are just here and free to do as they wish, tho remain mainly in the area in which they were born - friendly and like human interaction :-)

Only get a bird if:

- You like being awoken every morning at 7AM with high pitched shreeking noises.

- You like having a fucking mess of bird seed and bird shit in 3 foot perimeter around the cage.

- You like having the woodwork around your house chewed to shit.

- You enjoy having your nose or finger ripped off.

It's important to remember that large birds like parrots are quite intelligent. They want to be a part of your family and spend a lot of time with you. If you don't have the time and patience to include it, it can go quite crazy. Some birds go as far as self mutiliation. Also remember it will be around for a very long time. It might even out live you. Birds are really not for everybody.

A parrot is a good choice.

I had a bird once... It was a canary... I asked my parents for a dog but I got a canary... that canary is dead... I don't miss it.

This is Kara.. my 4 year old Timneh African Grey. Smart as a whip and not a squawky noisy bird.

Great Bird ! Ive got a 4 yr old African Grey Congo... Same bird, just a red tail. Unbelievably smart. Not Noisey at all...

A friend in Texas had an African Grey - it took a liking to sitting on my head regularly - ya just had to keep wiping the blood out of your eyes :)

I had a girlfriend that had birds.. I hated those things.. you could always hear them when you called... all they did is made noise and shit everywhere... I like birds outside of my house, not in it.

Certainly do... my biggest problem for a while was him escaping the cage... I finally put a lock on it

i have a blue fronted amazon. got a custom built cage to contain the mess, really easy to take care of. problem is, he is loud as fuck at the worst times (7am to 12pm and then around dinner time). he screams alot and says every word he knows during dinner. sometimes i want to strangle him... most of the time he is cute though.
