Servermatrix

I'm looking at moving some older stuff that's neglected to a cheaper box somewhere. It's not stuff I want to lose but traffic is rarely more than 700gig average over the course of a month and none of it's critical ie slight sluggishness now and again isn't a prob...

Does anyone use servermatrix and if so what's your experience of them? As the sites in question are unlikely to be worked on much anytime soon some of the packages there would be more than suitable if the reliablity is OK and they aren't too slow.

I've been with them since June and I have had zero problems. No complaints here :)

xanx 01-07-2005 07:36 PM

prices were ok, support rather sucked. I think I averaged about 45 minutes per reboot request, and about a day and a half per trouble ticket.

but who knows, I may have just been unlucky w/ them. Other people may love them.

only used reboot request when that wouldn't work

TheMob 01-07-2005 07:39 PM

I haven't heard anything bad about them

I have a couple of server with them at the old price of 59 per month which include 1000GB of bandwith. Only 1 problem when 1 box it was hacked, but that was my fault.

How cheap of hosting? I know a good place other than SM

fuzebox 01-07-2005 10:09 PM

I had a box for almost a year, minimal downtime (there were 1-2 days with connectivity issues, but that's it), however the support was frustrating at times, the couple times I called I was disappointed.

you're an idiot.

ontopic:
sm its ok if you know what you're doing.
they wont hold your hand if something breaks.

pudcat 01-08-2005 12:29 AM

I'm very happy with my server at sm, had a brief (hour or so) bit of downtime a few months back which was some scheduled maintenance that they warned about.

haven't had to deal with support much, only to get new domains added to their name servers which they are always quick at doing.

chowda 01-08-2005 12:32 AM

i thought about servermatrix, but candidhosting had a good deal. 170 for 2000gig bw.

This isn't a solution when your system hard locks from kernel panics, etc.

Sexzity 01-08-2005 03:21 AM

I have been hosted at servermatrix and they sucks.

acctman 01-08-2005 03:40 AM

i've had zero problems with them. they're pretty good, i recently had a server problem kernel was deleted, expolit i believe. anyway, they called me once they noticed my server was down and started trouble shooting the problem ASAP. anyway the managed to get my server back up without having to reinstall everything.

i guess if you know how to manage a server and just leave the hardware and really tech stuff to them then you're experience will be great.

You sir are a true idiot.

Thanks for the replies guys. Other than someone to push the reboot button once in a blue moon if something locks or quick fixes if hardware issues arise support isn't something needed so that sounds more than fine for what I need it for. :upsidedow

Now comes the fun bit - working out the best way to move it all. These sites may not be 'important' to me anymore but I'd rather not have them down long. I hate moving servers :(
